Our outcomes for this presentation:

Participants will:•Hear a brief overview of BGPS efforts to implement the ASCA model in grades 5-12•Receive sample resources •Network and learn from your colleagues about what other districts are doing

**Note: We assume that participants have a basic understanding of the ASCA model

District overview• 19 schools– 7 primary schools (no counselors)

– 7 middle schools (.5 counselor in each building)

– 2 comprehensive high schools (10 counselors total)

– 3 alternative schools (part time counselors)

• Approximately 700 teachers• 237 square miles (rural and suburban)

• Approximately 13,000 students• Almost 40% free and reduced lunch

What Would We Do Differently?• Early In The Process:– Complete the ASCA National Model Program Audit– Visit a school or schools using the National Model– Ask for assistance in our own efforts – Use monthly and yearly calendars and

Principal/Counselor Agreements for clarity of responsibilities and to improve accountability

– Learn how to develop and enhance a program using data– Work toward goals that are specific and have

measurable outcomes
