SAP GUI Installation Procedure

The following is a step-by-step procedure to install SAP GUI. Should you have difficulties with any of these steps or have questions prior to proceeding, please contact us at BEACON.tech@ncosc.net . STEP 1 ENSURE FIREWALL PORTS AT LOCATION Your BST Technical Agent at your agency is working with ITS to ensure all firewalls are open. If your connectivity test is unsuccessful in Step 6, contact your BST Technical Agent.
STEP 2 PREPARE PORTAL BROWSER SETTING AS FOLLOWS: • Enable java scripts • Enable activeX components • Enable cookies • The setting “Do not save encrypted files to disk” must be unchecked. • Deactivate pop-up blocker for AND add to Trusted Sites the following sites:
*.nc.gov *.its.state.nc.us *.ncgov.net
The following is a step-by-step review of internet settings which should be established: IE browser setting for IE 6.0 and IE 7.0
From Browser, Go to Tools>Internet Options

Select Security Tab.
Click on Sites button.
Add the following 3 entries in the Trusted sites then click OK:
*.nc.gov *.its.state.nc.us *.ncgov.net

Be sure “Trusted sites” is still selected in the web content zone, then click “Custom Level”
Scroll to Active X controls and plug-ins and ensure these 4 settings are enabled: o Download signed ActiveX controls – Enabled o Download unsigned ActiveX controls – Enabled o Run ActiveX controls and plug- Enable o Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting – Enable
Scroll to Downloads and ensure these 3 settings are enabled: o Automatic prompting for file downloads – Enable o File Download – Enable o Font Download – Enable
Scroll to Scripting and ensure this setting is enabled: o Scripting of Java applets –Enable
Go to Privacy tab, and click “Advanced”.

Ensure “Always allow session cookies” is checked.
Go to Advanced tab, scroll down to Security section and ensure “Do not save encrypted pages to disk” is unchecked. If you have pop-up blocker enabled, please change settings to allow pop-ups for
*.nc.gov *.its.state.nc.us *.ncgov.net

To do this go to Tools, then click “Pop-up Blocker,” then click “Pop-up Blocker Settings,” then paste the following sites:
*.nc.gov *.its.state.nc.us *.ncgov.net
in the area where it asks for “Address of website to allow:” For Internet Explorer version 6 and in some version(s) of Internet Explorer version 7

For Internet Explorer version 7.0.6000.16609 do the following:
For Internet Explorer version 7.0.6000.16609, type in: https://*.nc.gov, then click the “Add” button https://*.its.state.nc.us, then click the “Add” button https://*.ncgov.net, then click the “Add” button Click the Close button, close out of the Internet Options window, then refresh your Internet Explorer browser window(s) by clicking the Refresh button or the (F5) key on your keyboard.
You are now ready to load the GUI.

STEP 3 LOAD SAP GUI
• Where do I get SAP GUI? Answer: If you agency desktops are managed by ITS see instructions here: https://pc.its.state.nc.us/eRoom/Beacon/Agencies/0_2456
• Otherwise proceed as follows: Get SAP GUI 710 installation CD. SAP GUI
Installation CD was distributed to your BST Technical Agents. Additional CD’s are available at the BEACON Project office or available for download (Tech BST agents only) from link: https://pc.its.state.nc.us/eRoom/Beacon/Agencies/0_24e4
• Read SAP GUI install parameters:

• Install SAP GUI 710 which is the executable file: “Setupall.exe”. The following are
parameters that need to be set when installing the GUI.

The SAP GUI is now installed; you will need to load one patch for the GUI. STEP 4 LOAD SAP PATCH
Install SAP GUI Patch 3 https://pc.its.state.nc.us/eRoom/Beacon/Agencies/0_1bbb
Patch 3 is a cumulative patch, you do not have to install previous patches.

STEP 5 TEST RESITE SIMULATION
A Resite simulation file will be provided to insure it runs after installation of the ActiveX controls. Go to: http://help.mybeacon.nc.gov/beaconhelp/ESS%20and%20MSS/sim_ESS%20Simulation.htm#TopOfPage and a Resite simulation should launch. If the simulation runs go to the next step, eAssistant. If not, go the ActiveX plug-in installation, below. Launch the eAssistant by going to http://help.mybeacon.nc.gov/beaconhelp/Human_Resources/Benefits/b_r_PA20_Displaying%20HR%20Master%20Data%20for%20Benefits.htm#TopOfPage to see whether that web page is invoked. If no, go the ActiveX plug-in installation, below. LOAD MSI FILE – ACTIVEX PLUG-IN The Resite simulation and eAssistant require ActiveX plug-ins to work properly. These files can be installed in one of three ways:
1. They’ll be invoked directly from the Resite web site and installed while running the simulation; 2. They can be downloaded from the eRoom at: https://pc.its.state.nc.us/eRoom/Beacon/Agencies/0_1bbd 3. They will be provided in a CD , or find the files in a CD provided to you as SimulationPlayer.msi, WindowControl.msi files
Note that installing in any of these cases may require a reboot of your PC.

STEP 6 TEST CONNECTION / ACCESS THROUGH FIREWALL
Ensure your firewalls are open and check SAP GUI connectivity to BEACON Server. The appearance of this report validates that your tested PC is connected to the SAP system and no firewall issues remain.
