Roads are important to our safety. Roads are crucial to our economy. Roads connect us to the people and places vital to our daily lives.

That’s why we are investing more to fix roads and bridges than ever before.

The problem with Michigan roads started decades ago. For years, no general fund budget dollars were earmarked for roads. That changed and now more money will be available for road projects this year and into the future.

I am serious about improving our roads, and signaled that commitment by approving another $175 million in additional funding – on top of previous, longer-term reforms. The additional money comes WITHOUT HIGHER TAXES or fees.

Like you, I am frustrated with the condition of our roads. This winter, with all of its freezes and thaws, has made conditions terrible.

I took action to get more resources into the hands of the crews working hard to fix roads and fill potholes so we all have safer and smoother traveling ahead.

The solution:

Provides an additional $175 million for road improvements right away – without raising taxes or fees, and without cutting spending elsewhere.

Uses money left over from a previous state budget cycle, so the money is available right now.

Benefits counties, cities and villages all across Michigan.
