Induction Mentor Modules Handbook
This handbook will benefit prospective and current induction mentors in becoming
culturally efficacious. Mentors will acquirethe knowledge and skills to assist and guide teachers for diverse classroom
settings.
Transformative Culturally Efficacious Induction Mentors
Academy for Culturally Efficacious STEM Teachers (ACEST)
A transformative culturally efficacious induction mentor is one who:
1. self-reflects on personal/professional cultural identities;2. models critical thinking and problem solving skills;3. advocates for the cultural and linguistic values of students
and their communities; 4. facilitates the understanding of the interaction occurring
among cognition, culture, and language within the sociocultural learning context that builds resiliency among diverse student groups;
5. uses mentoring and coaching techniques that embrace the concepts of cultural transformative pedagogy; and
6. guides teachers through the zones of professional development in their quest to become culturally efficacious.
DimensionsThere are five dimensions in the Cultural Efficaciousness Evolution Model that serve asthe foundation for becoming culturallyefficacious induction mentors. Each dimension addresses a particular area of professional development based on educational literature forming a cyclical framework model of development.

The Five Dimensions
As the Induction Specialist and the Novice Teacher work
together and attend professional development
sessions together, they undergo A TRANSFORMATIVE JOURNEY. Like the evolution of a butterfly,
they transform and emerge, depending on where they are in
their metamorphosis.
