Going to Tobacco Cayes off the coastline of Belize Cit

transcript

Where is Belize?

Where is the Tobacco Cayes?

A 45 minute boat ride takes us to a 5 acre island called the Tobacco Cayes.

We unload our bags from the boat and head to our cabanas.

Usually, the electricity stays on for about 4 hours a day. There is a back up solar generator that the night time fans use through the

night.

It was in the lower 90’s and no air conditioning, but just fans. My bed felt clammy and moist and had a few little black bugs.

Hot shower….what is that? We are happy to get the toilets to flush. We were warned not to drink the water

from the faucets.

There were palm trees everywhere with lots of coconuts. Be careful standing under the trees.

Coconut and coconut milk

Coconut milk is clear and the fresh coconut feels wet and slimy.

Where is the barrier reef?

Heaps of conch shells everywhere!

I wonder what is living in them?

Conches and other debris

A huge row of conches

A typical local house and debris from palm trees

Here comes a crab.

Looking under a pier for sea creatures.

This boy is filleting a jack fish he caught. Have you ever had to do this?

What’s for dinner?

Lots of snapper for dinner…is he staring at me?

We were suppose to go night snorkeling using a flashlight, but storms are getting ready to roll in.

Storm rolling in.

After dinner we go exploring. We find a dock and look down into the water and find this Monterey eel looking at us.

Monterey eel stares up from under a rock.

He didn’t tell me his name.

See the leg of the octopus making its way out of this conch.

Here he slides!

Makes a run for it.

Headed for the water.

Enjoying the beautiful sunset

Curious what nightlife is like in an ocean. Night snorkeling was called off, so I guess that is for the next

time.
