ELGG Initiative

• The East London Green Grid initiative is

improving east London's provision of

open space by providing a range of

formal and informal recreational uses and

landscapes, promoting healthy living.

The Thames Gateway

• Bexley's location at the heart of the

Thames Gateway, Europe's largest

regeneration initiative, has been helping to

secure significant new investment in

housing, jobs, community infrastructure

and the environment. This is changing

people's lives and contributing to thriving,

cohesive and balanced communities.

Belvedere's Infrastructure

• As part of this The London Borough of Bexley has been co-ordinating a large project to modernise and improve Belvedere's infrastructure.

• Belvedere is currently home to over 200 businesses, including Lidl, Office Depot, Ferndale Foods and James McNaughton Paper Company.

• 229 hectares

• One of the largest manufacturing areas in

London

• Vacant and derelict sites

• 13 dead ends

• Disconnected from the station / river /

housing / the marshes

• Poor quality environment

Funding

• The funding provided by the London Development Agency (LDA) for the Belvedere Employment Area represents not only a major investment in the area. It also represents clear commitment by the Bexley Council to improving and investing in the area, retaining existing companies and attracting new businesses and investors.

• With this investment, Bexley hopes to create between 5,000 and 10,000 new jobs, and aims to provide local residents with the skills to access these jobs through a wide range of training schemes.

• Bexley’s Belvedere and Environmental Team have been working with partners to engage with local business. This has ensured the programme of projects delivers positive benefits for the local economy such as:
