Ben Franklin
Ben Franklin was born in 1709.
Ben had 16 older brothers and sisters.
Ben went to his fathers soap and candle making shop at the age of ten.
Ben hated his job, so his dad
decided to have him work as an
apprentice at his older brother’s
printing shop.
In 1721, Benjamin’s brother started a
newspaper called The New England
Courant.
Ben wrote a humorous article and signed it with a girl’s name called Silence Dogood. People love it so he wrote 13 more.
He wanted to leave Boston. He went to New York and began searching for a new job.
He could not find one so he went to
Philadelphia. He spent the rest of his
life there.

In Philadelphia, he helped build the first fire station and library.
He had the city’s government pave, light, and clean the muddy roads.
He urged the city to build an academy to educate the young.
Benjamin died on April 17 ,
1790 in Philadelphia.
