Why are leaves GREEN?

• Sunlight = White light and contains all colors of the spectrum

• Leaves contain pigments chlorophyll a & b and carotenoids

• Chlorophylls absorb all colors besides green = reflect green

Why do leaves change in the fall?

• Leaves loose their chlorophyll as they die

• Carotenoids (pigment) reflect yellows, oranges, greens
