HOW CAN BIKES HELP US GET THERE?

Project: Guatemala

OUR GOAL: increase primary school enrolment rates by 50% by 2012

HOW? By providing 5,000 children with bicycles, they will get to school 4 times faster than by walking

ISSUE: 40% of Mayan children do not complete primary education. Distance to school is often one of the most significant obstacles.

Project: Malawi

OUR GOAL: reduce HIV/AIDS infection rate by 90% by 2012, increase number of people receiving treatment by 300% by 2012

HOW? By providing 5,000 HIV/AIDS workers with bicycles, training and support

Project: BikePlanet

GOAL: design, manufacture and market a simple, low-cost bike suitable for developing country use, to be offered for sale at cost.BIKE FEATURES: affordable (<$100), simple, easy to maintain, available on microcredit (<$2/week)`

LAUNCH: in Malawi, Africa with an initial donation of 500 bikes to HIV/AIDS workers, followed by implementation of local marketing/distribution network.
