Report on NPTEL Local Chapter and Swayamprabha ProjectNPTEL Local Chapter has been started in our college since 28th December 2016. We havepurchased (4 TB + 4 TB + 1 TB = 9 TB) Hard Discs and loaded them with NPTEL resources inwhich total 518 video courses and 426 web courses are available and shared on Intranet on aInternal Server (http://10.10.8.25). Birla Vishvakarma Mahavidyalaya Engineering College –NPTEL Local Chapter College ID is 850 as given by NPTEL.
Approval letter of Local Chapter is as below:
For March 2017 Exam: Total Registered Students through Local Chapter are: 116. Scholarshipapproved for them by NPTEL through our Principal Request letter.
For April 2017 Exam: Total Registered Students through Local Chapter are: 76. Scholarshipapproved for them by NPTEL through our Principal Request letter.
Out of these students around 28 students appeared for the exam and got certified in 34 courses. 4students got ranking of top 5 % score and 1 student topped at national level from our Local Chapter.

We have secured the status of “Active Local Chapter” which is given to top 100 local chaptersbased on number of students appearing for the exam and getting certified. The certificate obtainedin this regard by our Single Point of Contact (SPOC/Co-ordinator) Prof. Dr. Rashesh P. Mehta is asbelow.
Results of July- Dec 2017
In the semester from July to December 2017, around 500 students had registered, out of which 35appeared for the exam, and 32 students completed the courses successfully. One student secured top1 % rank in one subject and two students secured top 2 % rank as per NPTEL norms. Thesestudents will get scholarship of half fees i.e. Rs. 500 each from NPTEL, IIT, Madras.

Jan- April 2018:Faculty InductionTraining Program through NPTEL:In the current semester from Jan to April 2018, total 482 students have registered in total 1376subjects. This number includes 31 faculty members. We have introduced the Faculty InductionTraining Program for faculty members joined after 1-1-2012. They have to complete two NPTELcourses from the following five subjects in next one year.
1. Better Spoken English2. Educational Leadership 3. Speaking Effectively 4. Enhancing Soft Skills & Personality
5. Outcome based pedagogic principles for effective teaching
Total 22 faculty members have registered for two courses each under this scheme.
The scheme of fee reimbursement is reduced to selected needy students for one course only byNPTEL, IIT, Madras. But from TEQIP-III, all GIA students getting minimum 40 % marks(successfully completing) will get full fees reimbursement (Rs. 1100 for this semester) fromTEQIP-III. Total 14 faculty members have completed total 26 courses successfully in April 2018Exam. Results were available in May 2018.
Results of Jan-April 2018 Exam: Total 119 students had registered out of which total 108courses have appeared in the exam from which 105 have completed the course successfully. Atnatinaal level 1 student secured topper of 1 % and 5 students secured topper of 5 %.The main highlights of topper students at national level in NPTEL Courses in this semester are asfollows:

BVM NPTEL Local Chapter has been rated as one of the top 100 NPTEL Local Chapters in Indiafor Jan-April 2018 Semester. It has been ranked at 99th position. In a short span of 3 semesters,BVM NPTEL Local Chapter has been able to reach this position at national level. Congratulationsto all faculty members, students, Team BVM and NPTEL Coordinator Dr R. P. Mehta. A felicitation ceremony and certificate distribution of students and faculty members who have completed the courses will be organised on 7th July, 2018, Saturday at 10 A.M. in LRUC Hall.

Criteria for ReferenceTop 100 Local Chapters -The formula shown below has been applied for the number of students present in the April 2018 exams.
Number of Successfully completed + (2 x Number of Elite) + (10 x Number of Gold) + (20 x Number of Toppers) + Number present for exam x 0.1 (capped at 10)Points are thus calculated and TOP 100 colleges are rated.

FELICITATION CEREMONY FOR Students and Faculty Members:Date: 7/7/2018Time: 10.30 to 11.30 A.M.Venue: LRUC Hall, BVMDr. R. P. Mehta gave an introduction of NPTEL Local Chapter at BVM. He explained the benefits of NPTEL Local Chapter to the students like NPTEL Credit Transfer, financial support from TEQIP-III project, learning and improving communication skill and programming skills through NPTEL Courses. Principal Dr. Indrajit N. Patel explained the importance of Massive Online Open Courses and learning beyond curriculum on Saturday and beyond the four walls of the Class Room. Felicitation of toppers in NPTEL courses, faculty members who completed NPTEL courses under new faculty induction training program and other students by giving NPTEL certificates received from NPTEL, IIT, Madras was done. Principal congratulates Dr. R. P. Mehta and students for getting a position in top 100 local chapters in India. He expressed the wish that in future BVM will still improve its position nationally in local chapter rating.The program ended with vote of thanks by Dr. R. P. Mehta.
NPTEL Courses as alternate to Departmental Elective Subjects:
The rules for offering NPTEL courses as an alternate to departmental (Program) Elective by meansof Exemption are framed and have been approved in the Academic Council in the month of Marchto be implemented from Academic Year 2018-19. This rules are prepared as the guideline ofAICTE Notification No. 332 dated August 22, 2016 and Curriculum Development Board meetingpoint number CDB1718.3.4.
Four students (3 from EC and 1 from IT) have applied to take benefit of credit transfer againstprogram elective in this semester I of 2018-19.
Swayamprabha Channels Setup and Relay:
The Swayamprabha Channel setup has been completed and tested in the LRUC Hall, BVM CentralLibrary. Important points related to Implementation of Swayamprabha Project are as follows:.
1) Swayamprabha Channel demonstration was be conducted in LRUC Hall on Monday – 26-02-2018 at 12.00 Noon. The demonstration will be given by Mr. Prakashbhai of ET department and will be goordinated by Prof. Anish Vahora. All Committee members who are not involved in TEQIP book purchase shall remain present. Others are also welcome.
2) Each departmental faculty member (in consultation with HOD and/or PG Coordinator) shallnominate one or two PG students for organizing/coordinating Swayamprabha sessions for UG and PG students.
3) Swayamprabha sessions can be used for proxy arrangement of regular class during leave of any faculty member, regular or advanced subject teaching etc. for UG and PG students.
4) The sessions of Swayamprabha relay on various subjects can be organized in morning 8 to 11 time and evening 6 to 8 P.M. time from Monday to Friday. On Saturday it can be organized from Morning 8 to 11 and afternoon 2 to 5.30 P.M.. Prior booking of LRUC Hall or confirming availability of LRUC Hall is necessary.
