LG residents are welcome to joinThe Canyon Gate “Shockwaves” SwimTeam.TheShockwavesare holdingregistrationfortheir2008summerleagueseasononSaturday,March8@12:30forreturningswimmers,Thursday,March13@7:00p.m.andSaturday,March29@12:30p.m.attheCanyonGateclubhouse.Late fees will be assessed for anyoneregisteringafterMarch29th. The Canyon Gate Swim Team isopen tochildren(ages 6-18yr) fromneighborhoods that do not have a swimteam. Eligibility for an age group isdeterminedbyanindividualsageasofMay31andincludes:6andunder,7-8,9-10,11-12,13-14and15-18.TheswimmeetsareheldonSaturdaymornings.PracticesareheldattheCanyonGatepoolandwillstartTuesday,April22withanafter-schoolscheduleandmovetoamorningscheduleonce school ends. Itwaslate1995whenIfirstlearnedaboutLakewoodGrove.Atthattime,IwasaVicePresident with Kimball Hill Homes whowas assigned the cross training experienceofbuildinghomes.EventhoughIhadbeenin the homebuilding business since 1980,thiswasmyfirst timegetting a chance tobuild. Lakewood Grove was a brand newcommunity with its entrance off NorthEldridge. Hammonds Homes and KimballHillHomeswerethetwobuilders.Itwasmyjob tobuild themodelhomesand thefirsthomesforoccupancy. When Lakewood Grove first opened,the community only went as far back asBirchview Drive (now just the first stopsignasyouenteroffN.Eldridge).Beyondthatwasundeveloped,heavilywoodedland.Whenyoucameintotheneighborhood,thefirststreet to the leftwaswhere themodelhomes were located. I built the two forKimball Hill Homes on the left side andHammonds Homes had theirs right acrossfromours.Afterfinishingthemodelhomes,we started ourfirst homes for families onChateauTrailnearGettysburgsoonfollowedby home sites on Birchview.That was thebeginning!As thepopularityofLakewood

Backthenthearealookednothinglikeitdoestoday.TherewasnoentranceoffHighway249(andwouldnotbeforyearstocome).ThecommunityofLongwooddidnotexistyet.TheshopsandrestaurantsonLouettadidnotexistpastN.Eldridge.DeerwerespottedfrequentlyinthewoodsintheyettobedevelopedpartsofLakewoodGrove. AfterbuildinghomesinLakewoodGrove,Iwantedverybadlytoownahomehere.Iwasnotabletopurchaseuntilalotbecameavailable on Guernsey Drive (the entrance street leading to thelake),butIbuiltonewhiletherewerestillafewlotsavailableforconstruction.Bythistime,IhadlongagobeenshippedbacktotheCorporateofficetoresumemyregularduties.IlovedlivinginmyhomeonGuernseyDriveuntilIneededtosellitandmovetothewestsideoftown.Someyearslater,IboughtanothernewhomeinLakewoodGrovefromPerryHomes,whereIstilllive.Ilovethisneighborhood!Ievenboughtahomeintheneighborhoodtorefurbishandresell,whichIdiscoveredononeofmywalksthroughthelovelystreets. Architectural Control Committee News Most of you now know that you needto submit an application to our propertymanagement company if you want to docertainalterations/additionstoyourproperty.Butwhathappenstothatapplication?Whyis the process slow? Let us tell you aboutthis. When your application is receivedbutSCSManagement,theylogit,andthenforward it to anACC member.TheACCcurrentlyhas8members–allvolunteersandLGhomeownerslikeyou.Wemeettwiceamonth,roughlytwoweeksapart.Wealwayshave three committee members at thosemeeting.Wehavesetuparotatingscheduleforthemeetings.TheACCmembersreviewallapplicationsathand,approveordenythembasedonourDeed Restrictions. If necessary, we callhomeownersor takeavisual inspectionoftheproperty.Afteranapplicationisreviewed,it is sent back to SCS Management, andthe company returns it to the homeownerafterrecordingitsapprovalordenial.This
