What do the tests/exams
look like?
I don’t know where to start – how do I revise?
Can I please have a revision
timetable template?
I am a parent/carer. How can I help?
Can I please have an example of a revision
timetable?
What will I need to get together?
KS4 3
Revision/learning toolkit – 12 strategies Note making A simple form of summarising.
Put information onto ‘revision cards’, write bullet points, etc
Summarising Select the most important points and present them in a concise and ordered manner.
Find the main threads in the information and make connections between these threads.
Summarising usually involves:
• making inferences to fill in things that are not stated;
• synthesising information to give the main gist.
Reading images
Annotate or label a photograph, diagram, piece of text or other visual image (produced with a white border).
Make links to what you already know and suggest a title or overall heading for the image.
If possible, explain your thinking to others.
Using ICT
Use revision packages, online revision such as www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize, Testbase/Exampro CDs
Look, cover, write/draw, check.....
Lots of scrap paper needed! Study the thing you want to learn, cover it up, and try to copy it; then
check.
Repeat the process until you get it right!
Write a rap or rhyme
or song; record it, play it back,
then listen
Write record play back
KS4 4
Revision/learning toolkit – 12 strategies
Talking partners
Talk about the work with someone else. [e.g a friend/ parent]
Ask questions of each other. ‘How well did you do?’
‘How can you improve?’ ‘Tell me what you understand by...’ ‘Give me a summary of ......’
Role play – walk around the house
Act it out; move round and recite; make links; e.g. science in the kitchen, history in the hall
Trace words/diagrams in the air
Put pictures and ‘post-its’ round the house
Highlight/ underline/ circle.......
E.g highlight nouns, underline verbs and circle adjectives
Memory techniques
Link words/information into a story to remember
Write a mnemonic [e.g. ROY G BIV for the rainbow colours] Classify information Word association (the more absurd the better!)
Devising questions
What questions could be asked about this?
What could the answers be?
Graphic organisers [including concept
maps]
• Identify key words and connect them
• Use templates [e.g. flowchart, herring bone, hierarchy, ‘What if...?’]
• Connect key words with connecting statements
• Group key words and connect [with or without connective words] [e.g. ‘Mind Map’]

Key skills
Performance, choreography, analysis.
As a performer you need to understand and apply the key technical skills -
posture, alignment, flexibility, rhythm, stamina, strength . Also the performance/interpretative skills – focus, projection,
sense of style, choreographers intention, and musicality. As a choreographer the key skills are developing a
vocabulary of the ingredients of dance – actions, space, dynamics and relationships – using your own ideas to create a
dance, finding and using different starting points to make dances, e.g. poems, exploring ideas through movement,
selecting and developing movements ( motif and development) and structuring and shaping dances.
Appreciating skills for the written paper include – appreciate, describe, interpret, analyse and evaluate the movement
content, set design,lighting,costume,accompaniment/aural setting and features of dance for the camera.you will also

pages 124 and 125.
Glossary is needed to be learnt see pages 127-129
Watch the YouTube clips of both dances; match this
with the WAGOLL answers in your revision guides.
Key messages from
the mock exam/ past exams
DON’T write anything until you have read the whole paper – once you have read the paper decide which set work you
will use to answer either section 1 or 2 – these sections will always have something to do with key elements e.g.
costume etc. however they won’t always ask about costume in both sections for both set works – so if you know that
you can answer a question on aural setting better using ‘Still Life’ then choose this set work.
Section 3 usually has something related to your practical experiences – e.g. the rehearsal process, the choreographic
process, how to create a high quality performance, it might even give you a stimulus and you have to choreograph a
dance using this stimulus but write the dance down .
ALWAYS answer every question – NEVER leave any question blank – if you are truly unsure put something down that
you might just get a mark for – DON’T forget examiners are there to look for marks, not to take them away!!

Pupils struggle to achieve top marks on the extended answer questions as they do not relate key knowledge learnt in
lessons to the ‘real life’ scenario.
Pupils also need to learn that if a question is worth 8 marks they need to make 8 different key points in order to
achieve all 8 marks. In the past pupils tend to write essays on one specific area which only earns them one mark.

Don’t just ‘read it through’
Be in a quiet place
Be ACTIVE!
Make sure there is lots
of light and it’s warm –
but not too warm
Drink plenty of water!
Take planned breaks to keep your ‘learning
efficiency’ high.
Time your breaks – don’t
take too long!
Start early and keep revisiting
your work. By doing this, your level of
RECALL (what you remember) will stay high.
By the way, how many weeks are there before the first exam?
