Workplace accidents are costing companies a staggering amount of money in terms of expensive downtime,
investigations and increasing insurance premiums. Though current safety initiatives (such training staff, safety barriers
and PPE gear) help lower risk, accidents involving moving vehicles and personnel are still occurring far too often. Factors
such as fatigue, non-compliance with safe operating procedures and poor visibility are some of the major contributing
factors of accidents.
Are you looking for ways to further reduce these risks as a part of your overall safety strategy? Are you ready to take
your safety initiative to the next level using leading edge technology?
BodyGuard® i-Tag pedestrian detection and warning systems uses our latest Enhanced Detection Technology(EDT™)
to significantly reduce risk of collision between moving vehicles and pedestrians in the workplace. The system helps
minimize risk factors due to; driver inattention, poor visibility and worker non-compliance with exclusion areas.
BodyGuard® i-Tag enables you to create a safer work environment and promote improved staff behavior and attitudes
toward safety. The BodyGuard® system establishes an adjustable safety exclusion area around your vehicles. When
someone is detected within this exclusion area; an audible alarm, and high intensity visual warning, alerts the driver to
the danger and gives them opportunity to avoid an incident. The BodyGuard® alarm stands out clearly above the
background of reversing beepers that can often be ignored because of their constant presence.

How BodyGuard i-Tag® Works
The main BodyGuard i-Tag® system consists of a “Cab Alert” unit, one or more “Sensor” units (these are fitted on the
vehicle) and pedestrian “Tag” devices (worn by pedestrians).
Pedestrian Tags are small, lightweight devices that are worn on a lanyard or in pocket. Tags are battery powered, the
battery has an average typical life of 6 to 12 months before replacement, they use common “calculator style” batteries
which take a couple of minutes to replace. All Tags are detected when inside the safety exclusion zone.
Several Tag models are available:
1. Standard Tag: Activates driver alert when pedestrian detected within safety exclusion zone
2. Rechargeable Tag: Activates driver alert and is rechargeable using USB charger or Computer USB port
3. Vibration Tag: Activated driver alert and Vibrates when pedestrian is within safety exclusion zone. This tag is
rechargeable.
Note: An optional Tag “Test Station” is available to provide positive validation of Tag function. Testing is fast and automatic, staff simply walk past the
unit and their Tag will be tested (refer to Test Station description later in this document for details).
Sensors detect Tags within the safety exclusion zone. The detection radius between Tags (safety zone radius) has
adjustable maximum detection range from around 2.5m to 9m. The sensors connect to Cab Alert by cable. Vehicles can
save Single or Dual sensors fitted.
The Cab Alert unit provides Audible and visual warnings to the driver when a pedestrian is detected within the safety
exclusion zone.
The Cab Alert has optional history data logging function that stores the last 5000 events. This optional Data Management system includes a data
collection device obtaining event history from vehicles remotely, and software for analysis and generation of formatted safety performance reports
(such as trends, identify high risk areas etc.). The Data Management system enables pro-active management of worker safety behaviour by identifying
higher or lower safety risk behaviour. Management can then discipline/reward staff to encourage better behaviour, or make changes to work flow or
work site environment to lower risk. Comparing analysis for different periods of time provides feedback regarding improvement or decline of safety
risk. (refer to Data Management description later in this document for details).

BodyGuard i-Tag® Single Sensor Pedestrian detection and warning system
The Single sensor pedestrian detection and warning system is best suited for smaller vehicles (such as forklifts, utility
vehicles, skid steer, reach trucks etc.), or when front/rear detection only is required for larger vehicles. The sensor unit
is usually located in a central location to provide best overall cover around the vehicle (e.g. roof of vehicle). The voice
alert will provide general alarm information (i.e. “Look Out! Person near you”). The system is compatible with all
pedestrian Tag models and the i-Zone detection unit (described later in this document).
The alert sequence is:
“Whoop, Whoop” siren followed by Voice warning. The siren repeats every 5 seconds while Tags remains within the
safety exclusion zone (note: Alert is slightly different for Vibration Tag, refer to Vibration Tag description for details).
The single zone system has a switched output that can be used for control or activation of additional warning devices
on the vehicle (such as an external horn or flashing Lamp).

BodyGuard i-Tag® Dual Sensor Pedestrian detection and warning system
The Dual sensor pedestrian detection and warning system is best suited for larger vehicles (such as excavators, graders,
larger vibration rollers, larger trucks etc.) and in situations where BOTH front and rear detection is required. Typically,
one sensor is located at the rear of the vehicle and another at the front. Items such as excavators would usually have
one sensor installed at end of the boom arm near the bucket (safety exclusion zone will move with boom instead of
requiring a much larger “static” zone) and another at the rear of the vehicle. The voice alert will provide information
regarding which safety exclusion zone has been breached (i.e. “Look Out! Person in front of you” or “Look Out! Person
behind you”). The system is compatible with all pedestrian Tag models and the i-Zone detection unit (described later in this
document).

BodyGuard i-Tag® Pedestrian Tags
Pedestrian Tags are worn by workers. They can be worn using the supplied lanyard or placed into a pocket.
Currently, there are 3 models of Tags available. All 3 models are compatible with both SINGLE and DUAL sensor
pedestrian detection and warning systems. There are a couple of functions on the Cab Alert unit that are related to
Tags.
1. Mute Speaker: If the driver presses the “Mute” button (located on front panel of the Cab Alert) for less than 3
seconds then the audible alarm will be silenced. This feature enables the driver to talk with pedestrians
temporarily. The Visual warning continues to warn driver a pedestrian is still in the safety exclusion zone. If the
pedestrian moves out of zone or another person enters then the full alarm will activate automatically.
2. Lock out driver Tag. This function prevents the driver’s Tag from activating their own system while the driver
is on board the vehicle. To lock out the driver Tag, the driver holds the “Mute” button for more than 3 seconds
while and alarm is active. The alarm will thereafter not respond to this particular Tag. The Tag is automatically
“unlocked” when the vehicle is switched off. NOTE: This function is designed for short term use. The Tag battery will be consumed
much faster when being locked out.
When a driver is required to have a Tag and must operate the vehicle for long periods of time (several hours a day) then
the optional Driver Tag Disable Pouch should be used. This disables the Tag without consuming the battery faster.
The driver places the Tag into the pouch while operating the vehicle, then removes it when leaving the vehicle. The
vehicle key could be attached to the Tag lanyard to ensure the driver takes the Tag when leaving the vehicle.
Standard Tag
This Tag activates the Cab Alert warning when it is detected within the safety exclusion zone around the vehicle.
The Standard Tag is powered by a low cost Calculator battery (replaceable within a couple of minutes). Battery life is
typically 6 to 12 months. The battery consumption depends on the number of times per day and length of time the
Tag is within a safety exclusion zone. The alarm is only activated when a pedestrian breaches the safety exclusion zone
and therefore Tags should not be in the zone very often (resulting in longest expected battery life). A “Test Station” can
be used to validate Tags and indicate when Tag fails or battery is getting low or a schedule can be set up to replace
Tag Batteries at fixed intervals before expected expiry.

Vibration Tag
The Vibration Tag is functionally identical to the Standard Tag with regard to activation of alarms. The vibration Tag
Vibrates when inside the safety exclusion zone. The Vibration Tag can be worn using lanyard, however it is more
effective when attached to a hard hat or ear muffs. The Vibration Tag can be recharged using USB power supply, USB
car charger, USB socket from Computer or hub etc. The Tag takes around 3 hours to fully charge and typically lasts 12-
24 months per charge. A Driver Tag Deactivation Pouch accessory is available. These Tags are slightly larger than the
Standard Tag and are also provided with Lanyard and a Clip to attach to Hard Hat.
Note: The Audible Alert function of the Cab Alert is different for the Vibration Tag. Instead of repeating only the “whoop, whoop” siren every 5
seconds when alarm is active, the alarm repeats the Siren AND Voice alert every 2 to 3 seconds.

BodyGuard i-Tag® Data Management System
The Data Management consists of Data Logging enabled systems, Data Collection devices and Analysis/Reporting
Software.
Data Logging enabled systems: Only systems with Data Logging fitted can be used. This includes all systems
with the “DL” extension to Part code (i.e. BOD0095-DL Single Sensor system, BOD0100-DL Dual Sensor
system and BOD0067-DL Test Station).
Data Collection Devices: These are Android-Based smart devices that collect data remotely from vehicles and
test stations (up to 200m range). Once data has been collected from the vehicles and test stations, it can be
transferred remotely to a Computer running the Analysis and reporting software.
Analysis/Reporting Software: This software is installed on a Windows-based computer. Data is transferred
remotely to the computer from the data collector (up to 200m). The software is used to analyse risk and generate
formatted reports to assist safety management processes.
The Data Management system provides analysis and trend reporting to identify high risk issues, improving/declining
trends in risk and overall system performance.
The system provides formatted reports in printed, pdf and email format. Analysis can be performed by Tag (a single,
group or all tags), by Vehicle (a single, group or all vehicles), Work area, Data Collector and over user defined and fixed
date ranges. A quick view trend report displays results for the last 6 months in a single click of button. There are also
weekly and monthly report options available at the click of a button.
Data is presented in raw spreadsheet style, filtered data, summary tables and graphs. The software calculates a “Risk
Factor” by date and produces Risk Factor trends. The risk factor uses a combination of the number of times and
amount of time tags are in safety exclusion zones. By identifying staff or vehicles that exhibit higher or lower risk, a
human management safety strategy can be put into place to train staff that are working at higher risk, discipline repeat
offenders, reward safe operators and change high risk work flows or site layouts. The Data Management system forms
part of the larger Safety Behaviour management plan and helps achieve the ultimate aim of promoting safer work
attitudes, behaviour and practices. This is a pro-active safety management tool.
The system consists of one or more Android-based Handheld Data Collection devices. These devices obtain time/date
stamped event data records from all vehicles remotely (up to 200m away from vehicle). The remote data collection
means technicians do not require physical access to the vehicle (safe and convenient).
Log records from the vehicles are transferred from the Data Collection Device to a local computer remotely (up to 200m
range). The computer Analysis/Reporting software maintains a database for all vehicles, tags and Data Collection
devices for analysis and report generation.

The software also enables multiple custom “work areas” to be defined. Tags and Vehicles can be allocated to specific
“Groups” and analysis can be performed by Group as well as by Tag, Vehicle or Data Collection Device. For example:
Trend Analysis for “Main Warehouse”, “Fabrication Plant” or by region “NSW”, “QLD” etc.
The system is supplied with a single Data Collection device but more can purchased as required.

Summary
The BodyGuard i-Tag system is an excellent choice for reducing risk within your organisation. The system has a proven track record for effectively
reducing risk while being easy to install and operate. Below is a short list of some of the major companies using the BodyGuard i-Tag technology.
Though from time-to-time we can refer potential clients to our customers to visit their sites, each user has specific requirements for their unique set
of working conditions, personnel and equipment. Due to this, and the fact that sites may not be available in many regions to visit, we offer the following
recommendations for those companies who wish to evaluate the system.
1. For AUSTRALIA ONLY, we offer short and long term rental (on a month-by-month basis).
2. A small number of systems and Tags can be purchased (there is no MOQ and we ship to almost any global destination).
We believe this is the only way to truly test the system. In your own environment, on your own vehicles and using your own staff. Using the Quick
Install Kit, the vehicles do not require any modifications or holes drilled and the entire installation only takes around 15-30 minutes (depending on
access to 12/24V DC on the vehicle).
The system has been designed to be simple to install, set up and operate. The system comes with an installation guide. All our clients have either
installed the systems using their own staff or an auto electrician/maintenance company. Orbit offer excellent pre/post technical support at no cost, we
can step you through the process and help with anything that is not understood.

Notes:
Performance may vary slightly between vehicles, environments and Tags. To date, we have no reports of disruption or reduced performance due to
interaction with equipment, physical structures or passing through solid objects. However, it is not practical to test all possible materials and
environments, therefore there may be small variations in detection zones due to unknown factors.
Regarding “insignificant” reduction in safety zone; we typically expect around 10% or less reduction of safety exclusion zone due to solid objects in
the path between Tag and vehicle (such as human body, vehicle or load on forklift forks etc.).
The Tag Battery life depends on the number of detections and length of time Tag is in the safety exclusion zones. Ideally, pedestrians should never
be located in the safety exclusion zone (or very seldom). In this case the maximum battery life could be as high as 12 to 18 months. Battery life from
around 6 months to 12 months is considered typical average when accounting for pedestrians being in the zone more often (or longer than expected),
variations due to temperature and humidity and quality of battery at time of purchase etc.
