What are Cations and Anions

Elements on the left side of the Periodic Table (Groups IA, IIA, IIIA) will tend to lose valence electrons.◦ End up with a Positive charge= Cations

Elements on the right side of the Periodic Table (Groups VA, VIA, VIIA) will tend to gain valence electrons◦ End up with a Negative charge= Anions
