No Decompression Limits &Deep Stops

No Decompression Limits &Deep Stops

• No decompression limit: the amount of time you can be underwater (at a specific depth) and surface without stopping

• Deepstop: Safety stop that occur deeper than traditional stops. It is believed this minimizes microbubble formation. – Not all vendors support deepstop configuration

No Decompression Limits

• Normal display (metric units & air integration shown)

No Decompression Limits

• This is a Bad Thing™

No Decompression Limits

• For Suunto computers, if you ascend above the ceiling, you get 3 minutes to get back below the ceiling.

• If you do not get below the ceiling within 3 mins, you are locked out for 48 hours.

• Using tables (instead of computers) doesn’t allow decompression diving

Deep Stops

• Deepstops are not widely implemented, research is still unclear on benefits, if any

• Some say “it can’t hurt” while others argue it may cause more harm (more nitrogen onloading) than good (fewer microbubbles)

• Research– http://www.alertdiver.com/?articleNo=255– https://

www.diversalertnetwork.org/default.aspx?a=news&id=514

Deep Stops

• Deepstops will be shown with deepstop depth (shown on left). Once you reach that depth, timer will count down (on the right).

Deep Stops

• For Suunto computers, deepstops can be set to be 1 or 2 minutes (110 seconds remaining of 120 seconds total)

No Decompression Limits &Deep Stops

• In summary – – No decompression limits are for everyone.– Do not exceed the nodeco limits!– If you exceed the nodeco limits, follow your

computer’s deco stop guidance (if possible).– Deepstops are still debated heavily, so enabling

and using them are up to you.
