Ovivo’sBrackettGreen®drumscreensaredesignedtomeettheincreasingdemandforhighcapacityfinescreeningofraworwastewatercoupledwitharobustlowmaintenanceoperation.

Overthelastcenturyalargevarietyoffinescreentypesandflowpatternshavebeendevelopedforbothrawwaterintakesandforpreliminarytreatmentofmunicipalwastewater.Eachhasoneormorelimitationsintermsofcapacity,processperformance,reliability,maintenancerequirements,andcapitalcost.However,Ovivo’srangeofdrumscreensoffersasuperiorperformanceinallofthesekeyareasandthismakesdrumscreensparticularlysuitedtoapplicationsthatdemandthehighestlevelofprocessperformancecombinedwithsuperiorreliabilityandverylowmaintenancerequirements.

OvivocanoffereithertheDoubleEntry(DE)flowpattern,usedprimarilyforlargerflowstypicallyrangingfrom8to35+m3/secortheSingleEntry(SE)flowpatternwhichoffersalltheadvantagesoftheDEdrumscreeninaformatmoresuitedtoflowsoflessthanapproximately10m3/sec,dependingonthespecificapplication.

Ovivo’sSEandDEdrumscreensbothusean in-to-outflowpatternthateliminatesthepossibilityofmateriallargerthanthemediaaperturebypassingthescreenorbeingcarried-overtothecleanside,makingthemidealfortheprotectionofdebrissensitiveprocessessuchasMBR’sorcondensers.

DE Drum Screen – How it WorksTheBrackettGreen®doubleentrydrumscreensconsistsofarobustlyconstructeddrumstructurewithasolidhorizontalcentre-shaft,whichrevolvesslowlyinheavyduty,self-aligningdoublerollerbearings,lubricatedbydeckmountedoilreservoirs.

Waterflowsfromtheinsidetotheoutsideofthe drumthroughmeshpanelsarrangedarounditsperiphery.Meshpanelsarecleanedwithgreatefficiencybybackwashing,withtheassistanceofgravity,atdecklevel.

Thescreenisdrivenbyasimpledriveunitpositionedatdecklevel.Thefinaldriveisanylonpinion,whichengageswithagearringontheoutsideofthedrum.

Thedrumscreenstructurecanbedesignedtosupporthighdifferentialloadingwithoutfailureofthemeshpanels,therebyensuringthatdownstreamplantdoesnotbecomecontaminatedbyunscreenedwateranddebris.

Flow PatternWaterentersfrombothsidesandflowsradiallyfromtheinsidetotheoutsideofthedrum,creatingastructurethatisbalancedbothhydraulicallyandmechanically.Thisflowpatternensuresthatthewaterlevelinsidethedrumishigherthanoutsideofit,withtheloadsactingdownwardsontotheconcretefoundation,thuseliminatingtheriskofthedrumscreenbreakingfreefromitsfoundationsandfloatinginthechamberwhichcanleadtolengthyplantdowntime.

TheDEflowpatternproducesanoutletflowthatconvergesandthismakesthisflowpatternparticularlysuitableforclosecouplingtotheinletoftheCWpump.

Cost-effectiveThehighunitcapacityofdoubleentrydrumscreenscomparedwith,travelingbandscreensmeansthatfewerunitsarerequiredforagivenintakeflowwhichcanresultinsavingsincapitalcostfortheintakecivilstructureandareductioninancillaryplantsuchascontrolsystems,coarsescreens,StopGate™

technology,andwashwatersystem.Furthermore,becauseofthehighreliabilityofdrumscreens,astandbyunitisrarelyrequiredandplantmaintenanceandoutagecostsareverylow,furthercontributingtothedrumscreen’slowwhole-lifecosts.

Purpose designedBrackettGreen’sdoubleentrydrumscreensarepurposedesignedforeachindividualintake,withspecificfeaturestosuittheparticularoperatingandsiteconditionsinstalledasnecessary.Thesecanincludeseismicqualificationandnuclearsafetyrelatedduty.Ourexperiencedengineershavedesigneddrumscreenswithaunitcapacityof35m3/sec,largercapacitiesarecurrentlybeingdesigned.

Solid shaftOvivodoesnotcompromiseinthedesignofthemainshaftandbearingassembly.Asubstantialsolid,hightensilesteelshaftisusedtosupportthescreen.

A-frame constructionA-Frameconstructionprovidesalightbutrigidstructurethatisparticularlysuitablefordrumscreensconstructedfromstainlesssteelordrumscreensthathavetobeseismicallyqualified.

Flow PatternWhatdistinguishestheSEfromtheDEdrumscreenistheflowpatternandscreenorientation.WiththeSEarrangementthescreenmainshaftisalignedwiththedirectionofinfluentflowwhichentersthescreenviaasingleinletport,thenpassesradiallyoutthroughthescreeningmediaandexitsbytwooutletportslocatedinthedownstreamcivilworkwall.

Thisarrangementsimplifiesthecivilworkconstruction.TheSEdrumscreenisprincipallysuitedtosmallerflowswherethereisnotapumplocatedimmediatelydownstreamoftheoutlet.

TheSEflowpatternhassomefeaturesthatmakeitparticularlysuitableformunicipalwastewaterapplications.Forexampleanysolidsthatmaysettletotheinvertoftheinletchannelgetsweptbytheflowandfalldirectlyintothescreeninlet.Alsoanoverflowweircanbeincorporatedinthebackwallwhichallowsthescreenchambertobypasstheincomingflowintheeventofoverloadorpowerloss.

Cooling water intakes Ovivo’sBrackettGreendoubleentrydrumscreensareidealforinstallationonlargevolumerawwaterintakes.Theyneedlittlemaintenance,andeffectivelyremovefloatingandsuspendedsolids,protectingpumps,heatexchangersandothercriticalequipment.Fittedwithmeshrangingfrom1.5mmto10mm,thesescreenscanbeinstalledasasingleunitoraspartofatwo-orthree-stagesystem.

Wastewater treatment SEorDEdrumscreensarefrequentlyemployedonwastewaterapplicationsforscreeningoflargeinletworkflows,orforstormwaterscreening.Thescreeningofmunicipalwastewaterposessomeparticularchallengersduetothenatureofthesolids,inparticularhair,fibresandgrease.

ProPaPanel® Screening MediaAfterseveralyearsindevelopment,ourengineerspatentedascreeningmediathatwouldresist“hairpinning”formunicipalsewagescreeningapplications.TheProPaPanel®technologyisathickscreeningmediaincorrosion-resistantnonmetallicmaterialthatresistshairpinning.Ordinaryperforatedplatepanelsallowfibrousdepositssuchasbodyhair,cottonandragstostapleor‘hairpin’aroundtheplate,eventuallyblindingthescreen.

Ovivo’sBrackettGreenSEandDEdrumscreensformunicipalsewagescreeningapplicationsincorporatepatentedProPaPaneltechnologytoachievehighvolumefinescreeningwithouttheneedformultiplescreensandmultipleancillaryplant.TheProPaPanelscreeningmediaisavailablefrom6mm(~1/4”)to2mm(~1/16”)indiameter.

TheProPaPanelsystemrequiresonlyalowbackwashpressureof2.0bar(~30PSI)tocleanthescreen.Thesamewashwateristypicallyuseduptothreetimes:oncetobackwashthescreen,againtotransportthescreeningsviagravityconveyanceandathirdtimeinthescreeningsconditioningprocess.ProPaPanelscreeningmediahelpestablishesOvivo’sBrackettGreenDEandSEdrumscreensasefficient,economical,low-maintenancesolutionsforfinescreeningofmunicipalwastewater.
