JULY

ow this is the pursuit of happiness. Elizabeth Lee and A
aron Fujino — both born and raised in H
awaii —
have been best friends for 13 years. A
nd from their engagem
ent on July 4, 2013, to their marriage a year later, Independence
Day has becom
e their own declaration of love. But these patriotic nuptials alm
ost didn’t happen. “It seemed so silly
to spend hard-earned money on one day,” Liz says. “But after w
eeks of deliberation, we asked ourselves, ‘If w
e don’t celebrate our m
arriage, what w
ill we celebrate in life?’ W
e knew it w
as once in a lifetime.” W
ith the wedding on the
calendar, the couple developed a brand — rich, rustic A
mericana. A
nd after touring hotels, resorts and ranches in both H
awaii, Santa Barbara and U
tah, the choice was clear. “O
ur wedding’s signature detail w
as Utah —
life elevated,” says Liz, w
ho earned both her undergraduate degree and MBA
at BYU. “W
e wanted to share this place that w
e love with the
people we love.” A
nd share they did. The wedding spread over four days and included a barbecue and w
ater rafting. “It w
as important to us to disconnect from
our busy lives and create an experience for our beloved family and friends.”
“I have never felt this kind of peace in m
y life. M
ore than anything, I just felt a deep sense of gratitude and hum
ility.”
1. LET’S DISH
Culinary Crafts plated the sophisti-cated Am
erican barbecue to perfection. “We w
anted the m
enu to reflect comfort cooking, but to take it
up a notch,” Liz says. “It was delicious. O
ur guests w
ent back for seconds!”
2. POP GO
ES THE CAK
E This creative confection of cake pops w
as Aaron’s idea — and it’s m
odern country charm
at its finest.
3. AMERICAN
COM
FORT Considering their
history, the Americana them
e was an easy choice.
To give the wedding a m
ore luxurious feel, they softened the hues to blush, ivory, navy blue and touches of gold.
4. TALK O
F THE TABLE As a destination w
edding —
with m
ost guests flying in from H
awaii and
California — an intim
ate, plated dinner was the
perfect way to celebrate the joyful union.
5. LITTLE TOU
CHES Liz w
as blown aw
ay by every detail of her w
edding — from
her family
walking dow
n the mountain aisle to her custom
w
edding gown to Alixann Loosle’s m
agical pho-tography that captured it all. “I truly believe our vendors are the best in the business,” Liz says. “O
ur w
edding was an am
azing experience because they w
ere able to take our vision and execute it with
professionalism and craftm
anship. And the venue w
as more beautiful than I even im
agined. As soon as M
ary Crafts gave me a tour of Aspen M
eadows,
the choice was easy.”
6. SAVE TH
E STATE Liz and Aaron’s save the date cards took quite the shape —
Utah. The sim
ple and clean design w
as cut out of wood w
ith letterpress on 220-lb Crane paper. And they addressed the en-velopes using gold heat transfer foil. “It set the tone for our entire w
edding planning,” Liz says. PH

Love StruckYou can’t hurry love —
and this dreamy destination w

e. Stacy Klein and TJ Bittel didn’t go on
their first date until five years after they met. A

sum, shared a kiss on the Brooklyn Bridge and w
ent to see a movie —
and cupid quickly struck. “The date w
as eight hours long, and neither of us wanted the night to end!” Stacy says. A
s their romance grew
into m
arriage plans, TJ went all out on the proposal. H
e took her back to that mom
entous Brooklyn Bridge and asked Stacy to be his w
ife while a photographer captured the m
oment nearby. Later that night, he gave Stacy a padlock engraved
with their initials, a guidebook and a flight itinerary for a trip to Paris. Just ... oui. Stacy then team
ed up with M
ichelle Leo Events to create a w
