1. StudentsenrolledatFerrisarerequiredtopossessanofficialidentificationdocumentthatincludestheirpicture.Thismayincludeadriver’slicense,passport,oraFerrisID.
2. StudentsenrolledinonlinecoursesarerequiredtoentertheirloginIDandapasswordtoaccesstheironlinecourses.Atpresent,thatsecureaccessisprovidedthroughtheMyFSU/FerrisConnectsystem.Thelogintakesplacethroughasecureconnection.
3. PresentUniversityInformationTechnologypolicyrequiresthatpasswordsmustbechangedfrequently.Passwordsmustbesufficientlycomplexthattheyarenoteasilydecodedinthat,atpresent,theymustbebetween8and30charactersandrequiretheinclusionofatleastoneupper-caseletter,onelower-caseletter,andonenumeral.
4. Studentsareaskedtosetupachallengequestionatthetimetheyestablishthepassword.5. Onlinecoursesare,bydesign,availabletoUniversitypersonnelthroughthecoursemanagement

6. Facultyand/orprogramleaderswilldeterminethesituationswhenaproctoredexaminationwillberequired.ProctoredexamsareanotherofthemanymethodsemployedbyFerristoverifyastudent’sidentity.Frequentlyarrangementsaremadeatregionalsitesorwithcommunitycollegestoprovidethistestingoversight.
7. TheUniversitydoesnotassessadditionalchargesforverificationofidentityunlessitmakessuchrequirementsknownasfeesassociatedwiththecourseatthetimeofastudent’senrollment.SuchadditionalfeesmustbeincludedonthecoursesyllabusandmustbeapprovedbytheUniversity’sStudentFeescommittee.Exceptionsmayexistifastudentrequiresproctoringofanexaminationorotheractivityatacenterthatassessesafeeforthisservice.Inthefuturetheuniversitymayrequirethestudenttopurchasesometechnologytobetterensurestudentidentity,andstudentswillberesponsibleforthesecosts.
8. Students’personalinformationisprotectedthroughtheUniversity’spoliciesandpracticesrelatedtoFERPA.
9. TheCoordinatorofInstructionalTechnology,intheFacultyCenterforTeachingandLearning,workingcollaborativelywithrepresentativesofthefaculty,administration,andinformationTechnologystaff(especiallythee-learningadministrator)assumesresponsibilityformonitoringchangingrequirementsforinstitutionsofhighereducationaswellasoptionsavailableformeetingtheexpectationsofassuringstudents’identity.
10. Ferrisonline“BestPracticeGuidelines”furtherencouragethatallonlinecoursesutilizeavarietyofinstructionalandassessmentstrategies,includingfrequentinstructor/studentinteractions,multiplemeasuresoflearningoutcomesassessment,andvariedapproachestoassessmentoflearning.

WhenrequestinganofficialacademictranscriptfromFerrisStateUniversity,requesttranscriptsthroughMyDegree.AcademicWithdrawalAllstudentswhowishtoleavetheUniversityduringasemestermustformallywithdraw.AformalwithdrawaliswhenstudentsprovideofficialnotificationtotheRegistrar’sOfficeoftheirintenttowithdraw.Simplynotpayingforclassesornotattendingdoesnotconstituteaformalwithdrawal.Students,includingcommunitycollegeconsortiumstudents,mustfollowthestepsbelowtoformallywithdrawfromtheUniversity(OfficialWithdrawal).

1. FerrisStateUniversityundergraduatestudentswhomaintainuninterruptedenrollment(notincludingsummersemester)aresubjecttotherequirementsoftheirdegreeprogram(includingGeneralEducation)inforcewhentheyenteredtheprogram.Intheeventdegreeprogramrequirementschangeduringtheuninterruptedcourseofastudent’senrollment,thestudentmayexercisetheoptiontomeetthemostrecentprogramrequirements.AninterruptionofenrollmentisdefinedasnotbeingenrolledatFerrisforonesemester,notincludingsummersemester.
