1. Welcome to Norway and World Championship Marathon Norway, Bærum,
Sandvika 2020!
Dear friends of canoeing,
On behalf of the community of Bærum and the canoeing sport in Norway, we are pleased to
invite you to the 2020 ICF Canoe Marathon World Championships.
The event will take place in Norway and the city of Sandvika, just outside of the capital Oslo.
Norway has a long-standing and strong tradition within canoe sports, and with organising
international sporting events. These championships are a great opportunity for us to, again,
show the world our friendliness and organisational professionalism, as we did during the
World Championships in Bergen 2004.
The Norwegian Canoe Association, NCA, together with the local municipality and clubs, will do
its utmost to organise a professional sporting event. We will join forces to make sure athletes,
coaches, officials and spectators experience an unforgettable and fantastic event.
Bærum municipality and the NCA welcome you all to Bærum and Norway in August 2020!

2. General Information
2.1. City introduction
Sandvika is the largest commercial, service and culture center in municipality. The town is
beautifully situated on Sandvikselva (Sandvika River), right near the river mouth flowing into
the fjord, with a backdrop of verdant hills.
The city is situated approximately 15 km (9.3 mi) west of Oslo, Norway’s capital. It is the main
transportation hub for Western Baerum, and has a combined bus and railway station.
Sandvika is also one of the stops along the route of the Airport Express Train.
Sandvika is the city in Bærum, and a natural shopping, communication and service centre. In
addition to the administrative centre, with its town hall Sandvika west with Sandvika Shopping
Centre and its approx. 190 stores and east of Sandvik river.
The most shops at street level and many eateries along the river promenade, is well worth a
visit for those who enjoy shopping.

2.2. Surroundings
Sandvika has several historical sites of interest, such as
Malmskrivergården farm, the buildings around the port
of Løkkehaven, and the old Løkke bridge from 1829,
which French artist Claude Monet painted in 1895.
Kolsåstoppen is a well-known
profile to residents in Bærum. It is
one of the biggest climbing fields
in the Oslo area, but the top is also
suitable for beautiful walks.
Holmenkollen National Ski
Arena lets you explore
different aspects of
Norwegian ski culture and
enjoy the fabulous views
from the jump tower.
Holmenkollen also has a few
smaller attractions, among
them the Holmenkollen
Chapel and the Kragstøtten
sculpture, which are worth
visiting when in the area.

2.4. How to get to Baerum (Host City)
2.4.1. Airports
Oslo International Airport (OSL) – Gardermoen – is situated approximately 50km north of Oslo
City. Most of the international airlines travel to OSL.
From the airport you will be transported by train (40 minutes) to Sandvika.
In the airport we will have an information stand. There we will provide train tickets, and the
guides there will show you to the platform and make sure you get in the right train. The
railway station is in the basement floor at the airport
At Sandvika Railway Station a shuttlebus will bring you to the hotel.
If you use other airports in Norway you will have to do your own travel arrangements from
airport to Sandvika.

2.4.2. Trains
If you arrive with train to Oslo Norway there are trains to Sandvika, Baerum from Oslo Central
Station about every 10 minutes.
2.4.3. Cars
You can travel without ferries through Denmark and Sweden: 943 km from the
German/Danish border to Sandvika.
You have several options to travel with ferries between Denmark and Norway (from
Copenhagen, Hirtshals and Fredrikshavn), and from Germany (Kiel).
When arriving to shore: for correct destination using Google maps or navigator:

4. Competition Information
4.1. Dates & Program
2020 ICF Canoe Marathon World Championships will be held on August 27-30 at the Bay of
Sandvika in inner Oslofjord in Baerum, and it will include a Masters Race in the first days of
the week.

4.4. Venue
The race will take place at the Sandviksbukta (Bay of Sandvika) in the inner parts of the
Oslofjord.
The start and finish line and the portage will be in the same area at the peninsula of
Kadettangen.
The boat storage and athletes´ area will be at the island Kalvøya.
KADETTANGEN: Start, finish, portage, price giving, VIP and public area.
KALVØYA: Athletes area, boat storage, restricted area: only for athletes, team leaders and
officials.
THON HOTEL: Official hotel for World Championships. Site for Team Leaders Meeting.

4.5. COURSE The course will be in the same area as World Cup 2019.
Course details will come in Bulletin 2.
4.6. Rules
Races will be held according to the ICF rules.
5. Deadlines, Entries & Registration
1. All team entries (numerical and nominal) must be made online through SDP system from
ICF.

2. Entries can only be submitted by the National Federation through the online entries system
SDP by the specified closing date (midnight European time / European summer time GMT +1
or GMT +2). Anyone having issues accessing the system should email sdp@canoeicf.com and
specify their NF and the specific issue encountered, in advance of the closing date for entries.

6. PARTICIPATING FEE You must pay a participation fee of €30 per person per day, which includes the following:
● Accreditation
● Medical Care at the Course
● Lunch
● Participation in the Opening Ceremony
● Security Service at the Course
● Organisation Fee
● Drinking Water during competition days
● Access to the competition venues for the purpose of training and other
activities.
● Boat storage
● The entry fee is calculated from the time of the arrival of the sports team, until
the team leaves.

7. Logistics
7.1. Lodging.
7.1.1. Thon Hotel Oslofjord,
Sandvika Our main hotel for the athletes and officials.
Cost is including Breakfast and Buffet in the
evening. Walking distance (1300m) to venue.
Cost is per person/ night in:
Single room: NOK 1190,- ( 125 Euro*)
Double room: NOK 760,- ( 80 Euro*)
3 person room: NOK 620,- ( 65 Euro*)
*Based on exchange rate NOK/Euro 15.10.2019. This may change.
7.1.2. Other hotel alternatives

7.1.3. Camping:
Bogstad Camping. For tent, rental cabins or mobile home, located 13 km from the venue. Cost
is including night stay only. Cost starting approx NOK 400 pr night ( Mobile home, 4 persons)

7.2. Terms of Payment
*50% of all the above-mentioned fee shall be paid to the Organizing Committee before
20.07.2020 and the remaining 50% before 20.08.2020
*All fees in connection with bank transfer to be paid by the sender.
*Please make payments for the fee incurred by the whole team during their entire stay.
*You are kindly requested to print the bank remittance and take it with you when check in.
*Your reservation will be successful when we receive the advance payment.
When your entry fee is fully charged, the organizing committees will send an electronic
confirmation notice.

7.2.1. Cancellation
100% refund if cancelled before 20.07.2020
50% refund if cancelled between 20.08.2020
No refund if cancelled after 20.08.2020
7.3. Catering
Breakfast and dinner will be served at chosen hotel. Lunch is served at the Venue.
7.4. Transport Services
For transport between Airport (OSL) and
Sandvika: see chapter 2.4.1
There wil be a transport service from/to
Sandvika Railway Station and the official
hotels at the arrival and departure. The costs
are included in accreditation fee.
From Thon Hotel Oslofjord there will be no
official transport between hotel and venue
(Walking distance).
From other official hotels there wil be a
transport fee Person/Day. The cost will be
given in Bulletin 2.

8. Other Information
8.1. Visa
Citizens from EU/EEA-countries does not need a visa. Information about other countries:
www.udi.no/en
Team members coming from countries who need to obtain a Visa to enter Norway, upon
corresponding request, they will receive a confirmation letter from the Norway Canoe
Federation, once their participation is confirmed.
8.2. Insurance & Medical Care All participants are strongly advised to have appropriate medical insurance from their
respective countries.
A First Aid and Emergency Medical Service will be available at the course. A Hospital nearby
the venue will be on standby to cover the needs during the event.
All use of hospital services provided in our public health care service must be paid directly by
the athlete or by the National Federation.
8.3. Boat Rental &Containers
The official rental service for this event will be provided by ICF’s partners. All information will
be published in the second bulletin.
It will be not possible to borrow or rent boats in Norway.
8.4. Anti-doping Control
The doping control will be provided according to the ICF standards.
