HOW ARE BOYS AND GIRLS DIFFERENT

IN THEIR BULLYING?

BOY BULLIES

Boys bully more than girls

Boys bully both boys and girls

Boys use more direct behaviors ( physical )

Boys are just likely as girls to use social and emotional taunting

GIRL BULLIES

Girls may use more indirect behaviors to damage relationships and can be sneaky and nasty

Girls are becoming more physical than in the past

Girls more likely to bully girls but sometimes bully boys too

Girls bully in groups more than boys do Girls seek to inflict psychological pain

for more lasting effect Girls behave well around adults but can

be cruel and mean to peers

WHEN AND WHERE DOES BULLYING

USUALLY OCCUR?

COMMON TIME AND PLACE WHERE BULLYING OCCURS

At the start of the schoolyear, bullies begin looking for easy targets

Can occur virtually everywhere especially where there is no adult supervision but mainly in hidden areas

Can happen where teachers and students accept bullying or are indifferent to it.

WHY DO STUDENTS KEEP BULLYING A

SECRET?

REASONS FOR SECRECY

They think telling someone about it is wrong.

They have told or heard someone else tell adults about bullying before, and nothing was done about it.

They are afraid adults will make the situation worse.

They are embarrassed because they feel no one likes them

They feel shame because they are weak and cannot stand up for themselves as they are taught

They do not want their parents to worry.

ARE THERE DIFFERENT TYPE OF

VICTIMS?

PASSIVE OR SUBMISSIVE

Generally quiet, cautious, sensitive, and perhaps easily moved to tears

Insecure, and have little self-confidence

Have few or no friends Very afraid of getting hurt or hurting

themselves Find it easier to associate with adults

than peers

PROVOCATIVE OR FIGHTER

Have tempers and may try to fight back if bullied, but usually without success

Restless, clumsy, immature, unfocused, and generally perceived as awkward or tiresome. Some are hyper-active; they may be fidgety, impulsive, or restless and have difficulty concentrating.

May have reading and writing problems. May be disliked by adults because of their own

irritating behavior May try to bully weaker students and therefore

may be both victims and bullies. Some are popular and some are not. One’s

popularity does not assure one’s safety from bullies.

WHY MUST BULLYING BE

STOPPED?

STOP BULLYING

Makes the lives of its victims miserable Undermines their confidence and

destroys their sense of security Can also affect children and young

people’s attendance and progress at school.

Can cause sadness, loneliness, low self-esteem, fear, anxiety, and poor concentration, and may lead to self-harm, depression, suicidal thoughts, and in some cases, SUICIDE.

IF YOU ARE BEING BULLIED OR KNOW OF

SOMEONE WHO DOES, DON’T BE

AFRAID TO TELL IT TO AN ADULT YOU CAN

TRUST

Thank you and good day!!!!

BULLIES NOT ALLOWED
