Karl Marx : May 5th, 1818 – March 14th, 1883

He was a German political economist, philosopher, theorist and communist who earned his living as a journalist

His theories are thought to be the foundation of modern communism.

Marx believed that there were too many structural contradictions within capitalism that produced internal tensions for it to remain strong.

Socialism would soon takeover after workers realised they were being exploited.

Marx believed that Capitalist societies were split into 2 sections:

a) Bourgeoisieb) Proletarians

The only way that Capitalism thrived was through the exploitation of proletarians.

Worker Productivity and Profit

Worker Happiness

Marx believed that the bourgeoisie basically bought the products off the laborers at a cheap price, and then sold those same products back to them at a high price, in effect stealing the surplus value as their profit.

‘The worker becomes all the poorer the more wealth he produces’ - Marx

Inevitability of Socialism

Dictatorship of the Proletariat. (Beginning in Britain)

At first, The Dictatorship of the Proletariat would have complete power to ensure that Capitalism didn’t come back.

‘The Ultimate Classless Society’.

His predictions haven’t been experienced in the way that he said they would.

Britain hasn’t had a Communist revolution yet and isn’t likely to in the near future.

Most of the policies used by the Communist governments of China, Cuba, North Korea, Laos and Vietnam were taken from the ‘Communist Manifesto’ written by Marx years ago.

‘Workers of the World Unite’

He told all proletarians, ‘You have nothing to lose but your chains’

‘The only solution is revolution’
