Why is it important to study how to describe your likes and dislikes

“Gustar” means ________________. to like

Literally, it translates “to be pleasing”. In spanish, you don’t like something. Rather something is pleasing to you.

Because of this, we match gustar conjugation with thing that is doing the pleasing, NOT with who likes it.

Use gusta when the word after is singular

Ejemplo: A mi me gusta el gato. (I like the cat)

Use gustan when the word after is plural or multiple things

Ejemplo: A mi me gustan los gatos (I like the cats)

Just like English, we know if something is plural if there is an “s” at the end of a word.

Example: el libro = the booklos libros = the books
