An increase of $578.1 million ensures that the Guarantee does not decrease with the shift in motor vehicle fuel revuenes.

EconomicsAn increase of $221.8 million reflects the inclusion of

mental health and out-of-home care services within the Guarantee.

A decrease of $1.134 billion reflects the exclusion of child care programs, except part-day preschool programs from Proposition 98.

A decrease of $1.7 billion ensures the total Guarantee does not change as a result of new local revenue related to redevelopment agencies.

romance book that was published in 1510.The first settlers to arrive in California were

the Spanish. Later on the Mexicans.The Spanish were sent to California to convert

the Indians to Christianity.Spain and England fought for the state of

California because England did not want Spain to own more land in the New World.

The mission period in California lasted only about 60 years.

HistoryThe earthquake of 1812 destroyed the missions in

Southern California. At the beginning, Mexico had power of California’s

political powers. In 1849, California came from obscurity to statehood

because of the Gold Rush. In 1848, gold was discovered at Sutter’s Mill.President Fillmore made California the 31st state because

of the discovery of gold. In 1861, telegraph lines stretched across the country

bringing California out of isolation. The transcontinental railroad helped linked California to

the rest of the nation in May of 1868.

HistoryCalifornia’s Central Valley is know as the

breadbasket of the world. California’s mild climate allows year-round

farming whereas other areas may not. California’s produce was a great demand in

the East. California’s agriculture is responsible for the

state’s wealth.
