Campfire Notes Penn-York Camp and Retreat Center Oct - 2017
Thanks to ALL for a Successful Benefit Auction! It was a busy day on September 2for our 36th Annual Benefit Auction. The day began with a 5K run & walk at 7:00 a.m. followed by a delicious Break-fast Buffet, prepared by our incredible kitchen staff. The Auction followed at 9 a.m., and a scrumptious Chicken Barbecue was available for lunch. The Alpine Center was bursting with an abundance of fantastic donations. Quilts, wood products, maple syrup, canned goods, and other treasures deco-rated the building. Our Women’s Auxiliary served at the food tables, full of Amish donuts, whoopie pies, special cheese, and pickled eggs. The Flea Market was full of activity for the entire day.
The generous hearts of the bidders and the abundant volunteers, who assembled to support the ministry of Penn-York Camp, made the day a memorable one. God’s goodness and provision are worthy of our praise! Addition-ally, we are thankful for the remarkable auctioneer, Tim Kaltenbach Sr. and Family, and the Auction Committee, under the capable leader-ship of Jay Janssen. It was a magnificent day!
2017 Summer Camp—Journey with Jesus Hello! Julie here, I just want to praise God for all the work that we saw Him do this summer at PYC. Reflecting back on the summer it is hard to explain what happens at camp other than that God uses camp for His glory. God’s will is done at camp. I saw God continually go before the staff and myself to provide for what we needed, with extra blessings too. I know that we see, hear, and are in a lot of hopelessness and brokenness in our valley; we sometimes wonder, “Is God working?” I want you to know that yes, God is active and present! He is moving and working. I saw it. I see it. I was a part of it this summer. He is near and is
at work: at PYC, in your town, in your home. He wants us to be a part of it. He invites us to love our neighbors. He invites us to invest ourselves in others. Love is a choice. He wants us to join in His work. Will we? Will we ask God to give us His heart? To love the people, He loves? Penn York is a special place where we see campers and staff come from different stages of life and find a haven. They come and listen to God's voice. We see people who find hope in their hopelessness. Freedom from their bondage. There was a camper who came to camp who had a heavy burden. When she talked with her counselor and with God she was finally freed of it. The staff around her saw an immediate change in her. Burdens can hold us down and captive, but she was finally able to start living freely like God wanted. There were multiple campers this summer who came to me excited and told me that they started a relationship with Jesus while they were at camp. There is nothing more encouraging to know! That is why we support Penn York. It’s exciting to be a part of reaching the lives of young people. We praise God and give Him all the glory for all the things we saw Him do this summer. Thanks so much for your part. We were so encouraged by your prayers supporting us!

The Latest Prayer Force Update Hello “But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” Acts 6:4 Thank you for continuing to faithfully support camp thru prayer. As I look back over this past month I am amazed at the way God has answered our prayers. Answered Prayers:
The challenge course groups this past month went well. I had a good time with each group. Corning Area Bible Club had another good couple weeks with their campers. The Auction went very well under the leadership of Jay Janssen. I was a little worried because there
seemed to be less items than usual, and then there were noticeably less people who came out. But God is faithful, as always, and the income was about average. It was a great day.
Our office position has been filled by Crissie Koester. She has been working here now for about two weeks. We are extremely grateful to have her, and she is doing great.
Charis has been doing a very good job as our housekeeper. We are very blessed to have her here. Current Prayer Needs:
Please continue to pray for Kyrie Schrock. Her condition continues to worsen. She needs a miracle. Please contact Marlin directly with your questions concerning this prayer request.
Pray for Marlin and Cathy as they support Kyrie and run the camp. Pray for Crissie as she continues to train in our office and learn what all will be required of her. Pray for the “Headwaters Fire Conference.” This is a revival conference that is being headed up by
Wayne Lehman and Tim Demster. It will be happening on October 11-14th. Pray for many hearts to be changed, and for a revival in our area.
There are many maintenance issues to be taken care of and a lot of winterization that is coming up. Please pray for strength for the maintenance staff. Dennis, Sandy, and myself.
I have several Challenge Course Groups yet this year. Pray that they go well, and that I can find staff to help me. I have lost several of my reliable facilitators to new jobs.
Thank you for praying. Sincerely, Jed Gehman jed@pennyork.com
If you would like to be added to the prayer force and receive updates through email please contact our office at 814-848-9811 or email us a request at pennyork@pennyork.com
