Greetings From Your Chapter Directors
Tom & Colleen FitzGerald
GWRRA NC-A “Piedmont Goldwings”
It’s hard to believe that a year has passed since Colleen and I took over the responsibilities as Chapter Directors for Chapter A. It’s been a fun year although I haven’t gotten to ride as much as I expected to this year. My wrist is healing and hopefully next
year we’ll be riding more. It’s been an eventful year for us and we’ve enjoyed our time working and playing with our fellow chapter associates.
There’s a lot going on in the month of December. Besides the Christmas holiday we’ll be traveling to the Murdock Center for Gifts on Cycles on December 1, 2018. The fol-lowing week we’ll be hosting our Chapter A Christmas party at the Fireman’s Club in Greensboro on Saturday, December, 8, 2018. Our final Chapter gathering of the year will be on Thursday, December 13, 2018.
We are getting ready for 2019 and several of us will be attending the NC District Op-erations meeting in January. We’ll be scheduling a Chapter Planning session for some time in January and hopefully, many will attend as we plan our Chapter activities for next year.
We hope to see everyone before the end of the year, but if not, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to our Chapter family at NC-A! We’re looking forward to seeing everyone at our next chapter gathering, December 13, and until next month, ride often and ride safe.

Thanksgiving was turkeyful, and we are thankful! Black Friday was a spendfest, with heavy traffic, shoppers in a frenzy, not a great day to ride. Glad I got my Murdoch gifts a
little early. We may be facing some rain, 40% last I heard, on Saturday, December 1st, but my bike decorations will not melt with a little rain. Weatherman predicts a high temperature of 57 degrees, not bad when we wear our cold-weather riding gear, and some of us may even dig out our electric jackets. Of course, we’re all prepared with rain gear as well, just in case. Murdoch is always a great experi-ence, and it’s a joy to see the pleasure the residents get out of our visit. See you there!
Just a quick reminder, should you find yourself riding in rain, please do not use your cruise control – not on your bike, not in your car. Motorcycles and cars can hydroplane in the wet, and cruise control can contribute to this problem. For more information on your cruise control, check your owner’s manu-al and/or read the article on page 74 of November’s Wing World.
Speaking of magazine articles, in November’s issue of Popular Mechanics, there is an article titled, “Bring a Friend”, how and why to take a passenger on your motorcycle. Pretty well-written, and in-formative for both rider and passenger. You can gain insight into both perspectives. GWRRA had an “I do too” program, whereby a rider could earn a patch by riding a stated number of miles as a passen-ger on the backseat of a friend’s motorcycle. When I say “earned”, it really was. It takes courage and faith to be a passenger, and not in control of the motorcycle.
We’re proposing a ride for the IRP (Impromptu Ride Pool) and any Chapter participants who would like to go, everyone is welcome. Southern Supreme is famous for their Christmas fruitcakes and goodies, which make wonderful gifts, and it’s a nice ride down and back. Going through the store is a delightful experience, wonderful smells, and treats to drink and eat as well. It’s not a long ride, approximately 60 miles south east of Greensboro, but it’s nice, country riding, scenic and peaceful. We’ll discuss this at our gathering to determine a date, possibly December 8 (yes, I know that’s the party, but those good-ies would make nice presents), or December 15, unless the group wishes to ride down on a weekday. Please let us know your preference before the gathering.
Mark Hench, Jeff Roth and I have signed up to take the BikeSafe NC class Friday, November 30th. The weather is supposed to be good, and we’re looking forward to a great experience. Hope to get some good information to share with the Chapter. It’s always good to continue to learn and improve.
Watch for impromptu ride notifications - and see you at our gathering!
Ride safe, ride often. Paula, Ride Coordinator

Having lots of fun visiting with sister chapters. Even captured the plaque a couple of times and carried it to other chapters to help
out our fellow COYs.
Many thanks to all the members who have been visiting other chap-ters and collecting the visitation cards—WE DID IT!! Picked up the last Chapter Visitation Card. Even though ASHEVILLE had to
change their date and time for their November gathering, Carl & Nancy, Henry, Jay, Tom & Colleen and Bruce Wing were able to visit
with NC-I. Good food, good group.
Ride Safe and have FUN!
