pounds went in and out over the
course of 2011. There is the constant
clatter of items being shifted by
volunteer workers and the thump of
boxes being transferred from lifts to
trucks.
The mission of Second Harvest is to solicit andredistribute surplus food. The food bank, theonly in the region, has its main warehouse onthe Northside of Jacksonville.
Second Harvest North Florida is one of the fiveprograms under Lutheran Social ServicesHowever, the food bank is branded separatelyas it is run predominantly by raised funding. Inorder to emphasize the importance of evensmall donations, Second Harvest hasestablished the $1=Seven Meals plan.
No one stretches a dollar like us. For everydollar donated, we are able to generate sevenmeals, much more than if you purchased at astore, said Bruce Ganger, Second HarvestsExecutive Director.
