Gaziantep is one of the modern provinces of South-Esastern Anatolian Region and also one of the oldest of
Hittite origin. Being the center of pistachio nut cultivation in Turkey and with its
extensive olive groves and vineyards, Gaziantep is one of the important and industrial
centers of Turkey.
Gaziantep has a territory of 7 642 km and a population of 1 130 000, and it has 9
administrative districts; one of them is Nizip, whose name comes from the Nizip Hill.
The area was permanently inhabited beginning in the Paleolithic age and witnessed the
domination of such powers as the Assyrians, Persians, Romans, Byzantines, Abbasid
and the Seljuk turks. The times of ascend for the Ottoman Empire meant the same for the
city. There are many mosques, inns and baths built during this times.
In the central town of Gaziantep and Sahinbey there are the finest specimens of a rich
cultural heritage. Their houses have traditional architectural features peculiar to
Southeastern Anatolia, Mesopotamia and Syria. Gaziantep is also famous for its three
regional specialties: the copper-ware products, the delicious Iahmacun (a kind of
Turkish pizza) and the sweet pastry baklava, which Gaziantep makes the best in the
world.

Ingolstadt is a city in the Federal State of Bavaria, Germany. It is located along the banks of the
Danube River in the center of Bavaria. I has about 122 000 residents registered, making it the
sixth largest city in Bavaria.
The headquarters of the German automobile manufacturer Audi as well as the headquarters of
the electronic stores MediaMarkt and Saturn, are located in Ingolstadt, since it is one of the best
communicated city in the area.
Ingolstadt is placed in the Danubian basine, a wide area whose inhabitement began in the
ancient Prehistoric age. Its strategic importance is owned to its geographical situation, for it is
the natural route between North Europe, East Europe, Occidental and Mediterranean Europe.
But the same fact of being in the center, made from the Danubian basin a land of invasions, a
land of coexistence (not always pacific) of populous human groups cultural and racially
differents and a land with superposition of different political systems.
Ingolstadt was first mentioned in a document of Charlemagne on 6th February 806 as “Ingoldes
stat”, the place of Ingold. About 1250 Ingolstadt was granted city status. Originally a fortress
city, is enclosed in a medieval defensive wall which was only broken by Napoleon I. The long
military tradition of the city es reflected in today´s civil and cultural life. In the earliest century
XIX the city, as well as the rest of Bavaria, became part of de Rhin Confederation, promoted by
Napoleon I. After the fall of the Napoleonic Empire, Bavaria joined the Germanic Confederation.
The village of Pobra do Caramiñal is placed along the west bank of Ria de Arousa, in a
historical privileged location both from a geographical and economical point of view.
It has nearly 10 000 inhabitants, living most of them on the coast; the whole area of
the council is 34 km .
The most important economical sectors are fishing and fishfarming although the
liberal professions have increased in the last few years. One of the reasons of the
increase is tourism, a fact that can be easily explained if we take into account the mild
weather conditions and the beauty of the region.
Remains of ancient civilizations are still preserved. From the Roman times, there are
traces of the Roman road “Per loca maritima” ; from the Middle Ages (VI century),
Postmarcos archbishopric , which is still the name of one of our parishes, was
represented by Teodormiro in a council in Lugo. Guilds of fishermen were created
after the struggles against Normans and Vikings in the XV century. A knight
belonging to Xunqueiras family granted the title of “village”, under the name of
Caramiñal, to the settlement which occupied Xunqueiras Tower in 1554. The place
name comes from a plant which was very abundant in the area, the “caramiña”
(Corema Album L.).
The merging of this village and the fishermen settlement was the origin of the present
day village of Pobra do Caramiñal in 1822.
