Action still-lifes - the symbol of death becomes alive.

A Nature Morte, a vanitas - or a Still Life - is an arranged depic-

tion of commonplace objects. It is often associated with 17th

century baroque paintings from Flanders and the Nether-

lands. These paintings often contained religious and allegor-

ical symbolism and frequently used skulls as a reminder of the

certainty of death, the meaninglessness of earthly life and the transient nature of vanity...

One day in the winter of 2009 I placed a skull on a table as well preparing for a clas-

sic still life setup - that seemed as a friendly place to start painting again. But what

happened when I turned on the spot light was a true baroque night mare: The skull

became alive! And furthermore it transformed into an Indiana Jones like super hero

zombie with stage freight - and even disguised it self as either a pope, an astronaut,

a scuba diver or an art thief. All there was for me to do was to capture the action.

Leaving me as a film director with brush and canvas instead of camera and film.
