THE STEUBEN GIFT

Steuben glass is an out-of-the-ordinary gift. Since 193 5 examples have been exhibited in major museums in this country and abroad; for nearly thirty years United States presidents have selected pieces as gifts of state.

The designs shown here are available at the Steuben Glass shop on Fifth A venue and at the Corning Glass Center in Corning, New York, where the crystal is made.

You may also order by mail or telephone. Illustrations of pieces not shown will be sent upon request; please specify type and price range. Gift certificates are available at all times.

If the recipient of your gift prefers to exchange it, he will receive assistance in making an alternate choice.

Special services are offered for selecting corporate gifts and commissioning oneof-a-kind designs. Inquiries will be answered promptly.

BALLOONING Crystal stele cut and engraved to represent the light-hearted spirit of ballooning.

The stele is composed of two back-to-back rectangular sections. Ha lf spheres-cut into the sections where they join-appear by reflection as full, three-dimensional ba lloons; the lines and gondolas are engraved.

Since medieval times men have dreamed of soaring into the sky in lighter-than-air craft, but it was not until 1783, in France, that Joseph and Jacques Etienne Montgolfier constructed the first successful hot-air balloon.

Shown here are stylized versions of later eighteenth- and nineteenth-century passenger models-designed during an age when ballooning was still a fanciful dream come true.

0202 Height with leather base, internally lighted, 12" $6,250 · Limited to an edition of thirty DESIGNED BY BERNARD X. WOLFF

WESTERN HORSES Semicircular disc of solid crystal-cut and engraved to depict a pair of mustangs grazing on the rugged plains of the American West.

The horses are engraved on the back of the disc beneath a cut full moon. Winter grasses are engraved on both sides.

Three deep horizontal cuts, crossing the front, back, and base, suggest the rolling landscape. Two are curved and polished; one, angular and finished to a textured shade of gray.

The hardy mustang is descended from horses brought to the New World by sixteenth-century Spanish explorers. Today this spirited creature, wild or semiwild, roams the plains fighting for survival.
