NOVEMBER CHARACTER ED2015
DRSL’s What: Celebrating Diversity
Why: Responsible Citizen, Effective Communication, Life Long Learner
Celebrating Differences… It’s important to understand human
rights! Justice, equality, respect for group differences, and individual integrity is all part of that.
Have you ever noticed… That sign right inside of our school that
states:
We do not discriminate or deny services on the basis of race, color, national origin,
sex, and/or disability.
This also includes ethnicity and sexual orientation.
What that means… All students have the right to come to
school and feel safe in this environment. Please respect and be sensitive to the
differences of others. If someone looks, acts, believes, and IS
different than you…. Respect it!
Celebrating Differences…
Look at diversity as an opportunity: The wealth of knowledge, experiences, and resources available through diversity allows you to grow in a way that promotes acceptance, appreciation, and understanding of differences.
In What Ways are We Diverse? Race and Ethnicity Culture Sexual Orientation Traditions Language Physical Abilities Opinions & Beliefs Religion Age Appearance
Think About What Makes You Different
Discrimination Be aware of discrimination: The unjust or
prejudicial treatment of an individual or group of people based on race, age, gender, religion, sexual orientation, etc.
Discrimination hurts and leaves scars that can last a lifetime, affecting goals, ambitions, life choices, and feelings of self-worth. Be sensitive about what you say and how you say it!
Celebrate! Celebrate and value diversity! Be proud
of yourself and your family traditions. Be sensitive and respectful to everyone!
Being different is good. Being yourself is great!
Look how one school celebrates DIVERSITY WEEK!
