I AM A WOMAN OF RECOVERY
I bleed for the joy and understanding of Life. My deepest thrill is to make you smile. Laugh. Joy.
I’ve come to understand you through the quiet of mind. With the past behind me, and the future undone,
I ask to be Quiet. Breathe in peace; Breathe out love.
I was unknown to recovery, Seeking balance in life. An obsession so deep- Unknown to the mind,
Unbroken by soul. Body rejects allergen,
Subtly begins chemical disturbances. A craving develops and takes master,
Leaving an unfit spirit to run wild and free.
Now left out of balance, Mind irrationalizes warnings.
Faster and faster, The compulsion to act,
Instead of to think. Unmanageability sets in
Unable to distinguish value from joy. My body craves excitement, And my mind fears suicide-
Incongruent option of escape.
I am a woman of Recovery. Today I know there is more to it
Than weakness and fear.
Watt Ave CDRP, Sought by way of psychiatric needs,
Became that first step to truly finding me. Though the search is not over
What I have learned there is plenty. To begin living how I deserve to be;
I could see you and others, But no, not me.
No credits and co-dependent, -The mind-battles and anger-
Overcome denial, self-destruction, and fear. I let them all love me,
Until I could finally see. I am a miracle!
Worthy of self-love and serenity. Continued pg. 14

A.A. Teleservice Needs YOU!!
“I can’t explain why I didn’t hang up. I
just sat there on the floor, with the
receiver to my ear. The next thing I
heard was “Good afternoon. Alcohol-
ics Anonymous. May we help you?”
“Came to Believe” PG 23
Alcoholics Anonymous Teleservice, also known as the A.A. hotline, serves alcoholics who are in need of help. We help
them to locate meetings in their area or provide them with someone to talk to in times of crisis.
This is a great way to be of service to your fellow alcoholics. All you need is the use of a phone and a current
meeting schedule. From the comfort of your own home on a landline telephone or even while you’re out and about with the use of a cell phone you can be of service.
We would love to have you join our team. If you have at least six (6) months of sobriety and would like to be of service please contact Central Office at 916-454-1771 or email: hotlinehelpers@gmail.com

A. Chairperson Report-Welcome to the December CCF Delegate’s Meeting. The last meeting of the year and my last one as chair for the past two years! I attended the OOC meeting on Tuesday December 17, it was the shortest one of the year, Steve will give his report on that. I want to say thank you for allowing me this opportunity to work with all of you by electing me to this position, it has been one of my most difficult service positions and my most enjoyable one! I was told when I first started that by the time it was over is when I would feel I knew what I was doing and this is the absolute truth, it took the first year and a half to get comfortable and now it is time to hand it over to John! Well it has been a great two years and I am still sober! I look forward to seeing you all in the new year only this time as a delegate.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Evan C. CCF Chairperson, 2019 evanmc58@gmail.com, 916-213-1841

Grapevine Quotes
Still it took me a while to see how bad it had been. I had simply gotten
used to it over the years. My demise hadn’t happened overnight, and I
suppose that deep down inside I hated myself so much—the true spiritual
malady as I see it now—that I unconsciously believed I didn’t deserve better.
Listening to someone else’s sharing in a meeting a few months into
AA, having stayed away from the first drink a day at a time, it suddenly hit
me how much pain I had suffered, how close to death I had been, what a
nightmare these years had been.
And it was soon after that incident that the miracle happened. I
became willing to face the pain of my life without a drink; the fear of drinking
became bigger than the fear of life without drink. When I surrendered to the
fact that alcohol was greater than myself, accepted life without ever drinking
again, the compulsion was removed, left me, as if it had never been there.
Some people have choices, and I had lost the power to choose. From
Day One of my drinking career I had known that alcohol didn’t agree with my
system, and that I didn’t have the ability to exercise choice over drink. Lack of
power had been my problem, and recovery to me has meant to regain power.
The Best of Grapevine ~Step One-ADMITTING POWERLESSNESS pg. 186
THE GREAT REALITY DEEP WITHIN
I believe I am—as are we all—endowed with a powerful Truth that can
potentially envelop our false ego that tells us to drink. The Big Book tags it
as: “The Great Reality deep within.” (p. 55) Some think of this spirit as “Soul”
or “God Self.” This True Self has the benevolent potentiality to encompass
and overcome our false ego-driven self. This Great Reality could be thought
of as an OVERSELF, if you will. However, this remarkable blessing is
manifested only so long as alcoholics remain in a fit spiritual condition. (p. 85)
It has become AA cliché: “An alcoholic cannot drink on the truth—only on a lie.” My false
self usually believes what it wants to believe regardless of anything that stands in the way of
that first drink—it has the unique capacity to believe a lie, even when it knows it’s a lie. The
Big Book calls this: “alcoholic insanity.” (p. 9) For me, this resulted in twenty-four
unsuccessful years of ‘quitting drinking forever.’
However, after a year or so of living in the spirit of the Twelve Steps, this Great Reality
(0verself) magically enveloped (ate) my false ego self. Now drinking alcohol no longer
remains in my emotional vocabulary! Seemingly gone! As the Tenth Step promise, promises:
The problem (mental obsession) has been removed! (p. 85) (Removed yes, but still lurking!)
Possible explanation: Just as darkness cannot penetrate the light, a lie (mental obsession)
cannot penetrate the Truth. In a word: “The True Self gobbles up the false self and sets us
free.”

The First Step
The First Concept
Final responsibility and ultimate authority for A.A. world services
should always reside in the collective conscience of our whole
Fellowship.
Concept One, (Short Form from Big Book)
The First Tradition
Each member of Alcoholics
Anonymous is but a small part of a
great whole. A.A. must continue to
live or most of us will surely die.
Hence our common welfare comes
first. But individual welfare follows
close afterward.
Twelve Traditions (The Long Form) from the Big Book
Thus has it been with A.A. By faith and by
works we have been able to build upon
the lessons of an incredible experience.
They live today in the Twelve Traditions
of Alcoholics Anonymous, Which--- God
willing--shall sustain us in unity for so
long as He may need us.
Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions pg. 131
“We admitted we were powerless over alcohol --that our lives
had become unmanageable.”
Who cares to admit complete defeat? Admission of powerlessness is
the first step in liberation. Relation of humility to sobriety. Mental
obsession plus physical allergy. Why must every A.A. hit bottom?
Upon entering A.A. we soon take quite another view of this absolute
humiliation. We perceive that only through utter defeat are we able to
take our first steps toward liberation and strength. Our admissions of
personal powerlessness finally turn out to be firm bedrock upon
which happy and purposeful lives may be built. Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions- pg. 5 & 21
Continued from pg. 1
My Joy is all encompassing, As I learn I am me, and trust you are you.
With healing comes gifts, Those “thats” and “desires” Fade with every new Light.
In a convincing promise,
One day at a time, My God does for me what I cannot do for myself.
The universe, the true spirit, a healing power. An Energy connecting my rooted compassion
Through Love and into Service.
For all those who still suffer: Fear. Denial. Hate.
May this message nourish your spirit, And firmly plant a seed,
Just wait and see! A new, progressive Freedom CAN grow.
I am a Woman of Recovery
In Love and in Peace, Because I took the advice
To pause and release.

With an Eye to the Future: G.S.O. Staff Positions
We are beginning to update our file of applications from A.A. members who are interested in being considered for possible future openings for the position of G.S.O. staff member. The basic criteria include a minimum of six years continuous sobriety; a background in service at the group and possibly district and area levels; business or professional experience; and excellent communication skills. Another consideration is a willingness to relocate to New York, if necessary. G.S.O. staff people are A.A.s who carry out rotating assignments and correspond with A.A.s throughout the world on all aspects of recovery and service. Additionally, they represent G.S.O. at A.A. functions throughout the U.S. and Canada and provide the primary staff support for the General Service Board. Currently there are 13 staff members who cover a variety of assignments such as: Accessibilities/Remote Communities, Public Information, Literature, Cooperation with the Professional Community, Corrections, International and the General Service Conference. If you are interested or would like more information, please write to: Staff Coordinator, Box 459, Grand Central Station, New York, NY 10163 or email staffcoord@aa.org.
