CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOLCLASS OF 2024
Registration Orientation
Becoming College and/or Career at CHS
The four-year plan, developed in 8th grade with each student’s individual post-secondary goals, interests, and skills in mind, will assist in the selection from a variety of pathways in HS:
1) Take more college credit courses while still in high school (up to 40 hours).2) Take more specialty elective courses such as foreign language, drama,
band, athletics, cheerleading, art, ROTC, etc. 3) Specialize in a career technical field such as culinary arts, welding, coding,
HVAC, cosmetology, masonry, carpentry, business, etc.
STEM and Post-Secondary Success• Need for 500,000 additional highly skilled workers by 2025• Alabama projects a worker shortage of 199,000 in 2026 and 273,000 in 2035.• The National Science Foundation also reports that there are currently between two and three
million unfilled positions in the STEM areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
• All graduates must be college and career ready. They must earn at least one of the following Career Readiness Indicators (CRI) :
• 1. Earn a benchmark score in at least one subject on the ACT exam.• 2. Score at the Silver level or above on the WorkKeys Assessment.• 3. Earn a qualifying score on an Advanced Placement exam.• 4. Earn an approved industry credential through Career Technical Education.• 5. Earn dual enrollment credit through an Alabama college or university.• 6. Enlist in the military.
Dual Enrollment• Honors US History I & II (6 college credit hours)• Honors English 11 & 12 (6 college credit hours)• Pre-Calculus & Calculus (6 college credit hours)• Honors Biology I & II (8 college credit hours)
* Career Technical dual enrollment classes that combine the above dual enrollment courses with courses at CVCC in career tech. Many students who choose this route get their career technical college courses and their academic courses at no charge.
