Background

In Dec. 2012 – Feb.2013, Camosun Piping Department Foundations (Pre-apprenticeship) Programs undertook the process of Program Review and Renewal (PRR)

Development of online textbooks

• We began exploring options for creating customized textbooks

• We talked to major publishers as well as government.

• Primary concerns from our PRR were: Cost Compatibility with assistive learning

technology Portability Up to date

Development of open online textbooks

Outdated Common Core Textbooks

New Trades Access Common

Core Open Textbooks

Core analysis was done of the following BC trades program outlines

• Automotive Mechanic• Carpenter• Electrician• Gasfitter• Plumber• Sheet metal worker• Sprinkler System Installer• Steam/Pipefitter• Welder

What are Open Educational Resources?
