The largest of the world’s first civilizations came from modern-day Pakistan.

The Indus Valley civilization lasted about 1,000 years.

PARTITION AND WAR In 1947, India (mostly

Hindu) and E/W Pakistan (mainly Muslim) were created.

East Pakistan got independence after civil war (Bangladesh).

STRUGGLE FOR TERRITORY OF KASHMIR Kashmir is a

mountainous region located at India & Pakistan border.

Pakistan and India went to war over area twice.

Small groups continue to fight there.

STRUGGLING ECONOMIES Both Pakistan and

Bangladesh reply heavily on agriculture.

Many rural farmers still use traditional subsistence farming.

An important economic development is microcredit.
