An adverb is a word that tells us more about a verb.

• Examples:

The man ran quickly.

She moved slowly and spoke quietly.I watch them closely.

I play well.

I walk carefully.

Adverb

• The verb is ran.

• Now, HOW did Jason run?

• He ran quickly.

• The word quickly tells us HOW Jason ran.

• Quickly MODIFIES the verb.

• In this sentence, then, quickly is the adverb.
