Introduction This book is designed to help you easily introduce your child to 24 different

character qualities, while they practice their penmanship. The meaning of each

trait is written for them to copy, and there is also a Bible reference for the trait,

with the verse or the meaning of it given, as well.

You can use this as a morning character lesson, and then have them do their

penmanship to help reinforce the quality they have learned. Also, the appendix

at the back has a list of suggested songs for some of the character qualities. This

is just another way to help your kids get the meaning of the trait in their mind.

APPENDIX Patch the Pirate Praises 1 CD has many fun character building songs for kids. I have chosen the songs from this CD that go with the character traits in this book. (a song for 15 of the 24 traits) Your kids will enjoy the songs, but even more important, when they sing them, the songs will stick in their heads. I always loved it when I heard one of my kids walking around singing a character song!

If you aren't familiar with Patch the Pirate, he has written adventure stories for children, and character building songs are woven in to each adventure. The Praises 1 CD is a combination of songs from several of the adventure stories. The music is conservative but up beat enough for kids to enjoy. Just to give you an example of the songs, here are some of the words from the song called "Initiative":

"Dirty dishes in the sink, make me stop and make me think

Wash them, dry them, wait for more,

We need to do this chore.

Initiative, that's the way, to make us joyful every day,

Initiative, see a task, do it before you're asked."
