from elementary age… to high school and adulthood

Are we sure we are doing all that we can for them to survive in the world they will

live in?

2011, 2012, 2013 and beyond…

The Data for CHES 2009… Grade 3 Mathematics

Grade 4 Mathematics

Grade 5 Mathematics

What does the data tell us?

The MSDE data tells us that on a whole CHES is on target with educating our students.

Grade 3: 100% in the proficient and advanced range Grade 4: 5.6% in the basic range, 46.4% in the proficient range and 50.0% in the advanced range Grade 5: 11.1% in the basic range, 57.8% in the proficient

range, and 31.1% in the advanced range (slightly more in the basic range over 2008)

Is that the whole picture?

Well not really, now the sub group population.

Special Education is an area we need to look at.

We are making some progress, can we do more for the students in this population?

Students in the LEP Population

We are receiving students in this population.

5 0 4 P o p u la t io n

Minimal changes in this population.

FARMS Population

There are a number of students

in this population.

Title I Population

There are more and more students in this population and the numbers are on the rise.

What the data tells us…

The data tells us that although the overall test scores results look good for 2009, when we look at the sub groups, we see a different picture.

These groups are showing us that more students are falling into one of these subgroups as time moves forward.

The areas showing the most needs is the Special Education and the Title I populations.

(These students may overlap and fall into both categories)

Are we doing all that we can?

We can do more and we need to do more to assure we are doing all that we can for all of our students.

Let’s look at some of the issues…

Administrators and Teachers Students Learning

How administrators and teachers assess student performance?

technology would provide a means to monitor academic performances the data collection would be more systematic, more accurate

S t u d e n t L e a r n in gWhat are the effects of educational technology on student

learning? technology can be integrated into instruction means to monitor students’ progress consistently can assists with differentiation* and meeting all students needs

Administrators and Teachers

What are the effects of educational technology on student learning?

-technology should be integrated into instruction -based on students learning styles and needs -can provide standards-based alignment with daily lessons Needs will help formulate what type of technology, how it will be used, and so there is equal access for all students to use

Student Learning

How administrators and teachers assess student performance and

adjust instruction on a consistent basis

Technology can help with…

and with differentiationUse of technology can assists with

differentiation* and meeting all students needs - teachers can conduct small group instruction - teachers can use the data to determine academic “gaps” - there are various technology programs with

modified and targeted activities for students to work thru, to gain skills

We need a plan…

Where do we start ? Data already is organized for us on MSDE’s web

site and in our district’s database, Performance Matters

Then, use some systematic means to use the data to determine the success or area of need in their program of instruction, here mathematics

Set goals to use the data to answer the question, what does this data tell us about students performance and academic achievement

Administrators and teachers need to have time to collaborate and analyze the data

Determine the look fors such as what do our students know and what do they need to learn, or what do we need to teach

Determine what we need to re-teach, as well. Look at the data and student performances in

relationship to other schools and based on the performances of all students in a county will help with keep students on track developmentally

Now, what do you think we should do to assure that we are doing all that we can for

our students now in 2009?
