‘THE POWER OF YOUTH HANDS’

TRUST

PRESENTS ON CHILD LABOUR

ABOLITION

During the Industrial Revolution , Young children were employed in production factories with

dangerous, and often fatal, working conditions

An estimated 1.7 million children under the age of fifteen

were employed in American industry by 1900. In 1910, over

2 million children in the same age group were employed in

the United States.

PRESENT DAY

Most child labor occurs in the informal sector,

"selling many things on the streets, at work in

agriculture or hidden away in houses

In 1997, research indicated that the number of child

laborers in the silk-weaving industry in the district of

Kanchipuram in India exceeded 40,000

According to the statistics given by Indian government there are 20 million

child laborers in the country, while other agencies claim that it is 50 million.

On November 21, 2005, an Indian NGO activist

Junked Khan with the help of the Labor Department

and NGO Parham mounted the country's biggest

ever raid for child labor rescue.

CAUSES FOR CHILD LABOUR•poverty, • parental illiteracy,• social apathy, • ignorance, • lack of education • exposure, • exploitation of cheap and unorganized labor

In India 14.4 % children between 10 and 14 years of age are employed in child labor.

Children in rural families who are ailing with

poverty perceive their children as an income

generating resource to supplement the family

income.

It is important to remember that industrialization can afford to wait but youth cannot be captured for long.

The future of a community is in the well

being of its children.
