Child’s Mock Cable Sweater

Intermediate
To check gauge CO 24 sts and work in pattern
for 7 repeats plus 2 rows. Work should measure
4” (you will end the 1st row with P1)
MC = (Mock Cable St) sl next 3 sts to right-
hand needle, pass the 3rd st on the right-hand
needle over the first 2 sts as if you were binding
it off. Sl those 2 sts back onto left-hand needle,
K1, yo, K1
Mock Cable Pattern:
Row 1—K1, P1, *MC, P3, repeat from * to last 5
sts, MC, P1, K1
Row 2—K the K sts, P the P sts and yarn overs
Rows 3 & 4—K the K sts & P the P sts
Repeat Rows 1-4 for pattern
Back:
CO 79 (85, 91, 97, 103)
Row 1 is a right side row
Work in pattern until work measures 7 3/4 ( 8
1/4, 10 1/4, 11 3/4, 13 1/4)” ending having
worked a WS row.
Armhole Shaping:
Continue in established pattern while working

With smaller needles CO 35 (39, 41, 45, 47) sts
Work 8 rows of Mock Cable Pattern
Change to larger needles and work in sleeve pat-
tern.
Place markers after st 13 (15, 16, 18, 19) and an-
other mkr after the next 9 sts
Sleeve Pattern:
Row 1—(RS) K1, P to mkr, MC, P3, MC, P to last
st, K1
Row 2—(WS) P1, K to mkr, K the Ks and P the Ps
to next mkr, K to last st, P1
Row 3—(RS) K1, P to mkr, K the K sts & P the P
sts to next mkr.,P to last st, K1
Row 4— (WS) repeat row 2
Repeat these 4 rows of Sleeve Pattern while in-
creasing 1 st each side every 4th row 1 (10, 11, 10,
14) times as follows:
Increase rows: WS, P1, M1, K to mkr, K the Ks &
P the Ps to next mkr, K to last st, M1, P1
Continue repeating rows 1-4 increasing each side
every 6th row 10 (5, 6, 8, 6) times

Shape Cap:
At beg of next 2 rows BO 5 sts
At beg of following 2 rows BO 4 sts
On following rows keep 1st and last st in
stockinette (this will be a selvage edge and
make it easier to stitch the sleeves to the
body)

Sew fronts to back at shoulder seams.
Neck Ribbing:
Row 1—With RS facing and smaller needles,
pick up and K 1 sts for every st on BO sts, 3sts
for every 4 rows to BO sts along back, pick up
& K 1 sts for every BO st along back, 3 sts for
every 4 rows to front BO sts, 1 sts for each BO
sts at neck edge.
Row 2—K1, P1 for 5 rows
BO in ribbing.
Button Band:
With RS of left front facing & smaller needle,
pick up and k 3 sts for every 4 rows along
front edge. K 5 rows, BO
Buttonhole Band
With RS of right front facing & smaller needle,
pick up and k3 sts for every 4 rows along front
edge.
K 1 row adjusting sts to a multiple of 7
Button hole I-cord:
[K1, K2tog tbl, sl sts back to left-hand nee-
dle] 5 times, K2
[sl sts back to left needle, K2] 3 times
Leaving sts on right needle, move 2 sts
from left needle to right needle and lift 1st
st over 2nd st as in binding off
Sl next st from left needle to right needle
and slip first st over second as before
Move all 3 sts back to left needle and re-
peat from 1st bullet until only 5 sts remain
then repeat 1st bullet and BO
Sew sleeves to armholes. Sew sleeve seams
and side seams.
Weave in all loose ends
Sew buttons on button band to match button-
holes.
