Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

July 17, 2016

You are cordially invited to our 60th Anniversary Celebration!

The Christ the King icon will be unveiled and blessed by Bishop Berg

on Saturday, July 23rd at the 4:30 p.m. Mass

On Sunday, July 24th

we will commemorate the blessing of the icon from the night before

and celebrate our 60th Anniversary with a stand-up champagne brunch

in Adrians Hall at 9:30 a.m.

Don’t miss the program on the icon: This weekend, Fr. Jon Buffington, the iconographer, will join the parish in worship. On Sunday, July 17th, Fr. Buffington will offer a program about the construction, writing and mean-ing of the icon in Adrians Hall at 9:30 a.m. This is your chance for a sneak peek at the icon while being constructed.

Each Christian needs half an hour of

prayer each day, except when we are

busy; then we need an hour. —St. Francis de Sales

I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to the many, many pa-rishioners who stepped up to sup-port our Earthkeepers Vacation Bible School this summer with their time, talent, supplies, food,

and financial resources. I am overwhelmed by the generosity that this community shows to help evan-gelize our kids and teens. Christ the King is so blessed by all of you.

Our 60th Anniversary: Arboreal Memorials

If parish families wish to make a gift honoring families or family members, especially those who were part of our founding community 60 years ago, all will have abundant opportunities to offer financial gifts for memorial trees or bushes. These gifts might range from $60-$70 for an individual bush, or $425-$750 for a tree. All these gifts will be memorialized in the narthex at the completion of the project.

If you are interested in a preliminary way in making a gift, please let Mary Meissner know at the Parish Office. Further details will come.

This Week The icon of Christ the King that will be the patronal image for our parish will be formally dedi-cated next weekend at the 4:30pm Mass by Bishop Berg.

Some Background Theword icon means image. This venerable art form began in the early Church, most likely in the 4th century. The oldest icons in the world come from the 6th century in Egypt. Writing an icon is process of prayer and fast-ing. In the East the icon is often referred to as a window into eternity. All icons are variations on the incarnation of Jesus Christ, the Word become flesh. Light radiates outward from deep within the icon. The paints, a mixture of egg, vinegar, water and earth, all come from creation itself. The iconographic image aims to reach out and embrace the viewer and engage the viewer in personal relationship.

Sunday, July 17th, 2016 9:30am Fr. Jon Buffington, Iconographer Program in Adrians Hall Tuesday, July 19th, 2016 9:00am Men’s Bible Study Saturday, July 23rd, 2016 4:30pm Unveiling/Blessing of Icon Sunday, July 24th, 2016 9:30am 60th Anniversary Celebration Adrians Hall

Merciful like the Father, is the “motto” of this Holy Year. In mer-cy, we find proof of how God loves us. He gives his entire self, always, freely, asking nothing in return. He comes to our aid whenever we call upon him. What a beautiful thing that the Church begins her daily prayer with the word, “O God, come to my assistance. O Lord, make haste to help me” (Ps 70:2)! The assistance we ask for is already the first step of God’s mercy toward us. He comes to assist us in our weakness. And his help consists in helping us accept his presence and closeness to us. Day after day, touched by his compassion, we also can become com-passionate towards others.

— Pope Francis

Register for a Wellness Package which includes 4 vascu-lar tests and osteoporosis screening from $149 ($139 with our member discount). All five screening take 60-90 minutes to complete.
