Canonization of John Henry Newman - October 13, 2019
Ask Sr. Rose Must a Catholic man and woman be
married before a priest, deacon or bishop, for the church to recognize the marriage?
By church law, when two Catholics marry they must exchange their free consent in the presence of the church’s minister, (Priest, Deacon, Bishop), two witnesses, and the congregation. The consent is further symbolized by the blessing and exchange of rings.

John Henry Newman February 21, 1801 – August 11, 1890) was a Catholic theologian, philosopher and cardinal who converted to Catholicism from Anglicanism in October 1845. In early life, he was a major figure in the Oxford Movement to bring the Church of England back to its roots. Eventually his studies in history persuaded him to become a Catholic. Canonization would make Newman the first English person who has lived since the 17th century officially recognized as a saint by the Catholic Church. In 1991, Newman was proclaimed "Venerable" by the Congregation for the Causes of Saints – the first stage in the canonization process. He was beatified on September 19, 2010 at an open air Mass in Birmingham. On 1 July 2019, Pope Francis announced at the Consistory of Cardinals his intention to canonize Newman on October 13th. In 2001, Jack Sullivan, an American deacon from Marshfield in Massachusetts, attributed his recovery from a spinal cord disorder to the intercession of Newman. The miracle was accepted by the Holy See for Newman's beatification, which Pope Benedict XVI announced on September 19, 2010 during a visit to Britain. The approval of a further miracle at the intercession of Newman was reported in November 2018: the healing of a pregnant woman from a grave illness. The decree approving this miracle was authorized to be promulgated on February 12, 2019.
On July 1, 2019, with an affirmative vote, Newman's canonization was authorized and the date for the canonization ceremony was set for October 13, 2019.

Gospel Today Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time / Luke 17:11-19 < K D’S >
KORNER Jesus healed ten lepers, people with a skin disease, but only one came back to say thank you.
Ten lepers called out “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!” — Luke 17:14
They all had faith, they all were healed, they all were happy to be able to return home. But only one went back to say “Thank you.” Jesus asked the man, “Ten were cleansed, were they not? Where are the other nine?” — Luke 17:17
Jesus was pleased with the Samaritan and said, “Stand up and go, your faith has saved you.” — Luke 17:19
God gives us everything, but some. mes we get so happy and excited we forget to say thank you to God for His goodness.
Color and fill in the space above with words or a picture of what you want to thank God for. Hang it in a visible place.
Dear Jesus, Thank you for...

The world was a playground for Mickey, a naive Irish American kid bored with his life. His father served in World War II, his brother was a Marine in Vietnam; now it was his turn. His 365 days in Vietnam builds in torment until an attack on a bunker complex in Cambodia. Wounded, his friend captured, he becomes a tormented survivor knowing he is always just a heartbeat from death.
In this memoir, set as deeply in his mind as in the Southeast Asian jungle, a young American soldier embarks
on a journey to a war that, for him, will never be over.
