Meaning of clap switch

• Clap switch is a switch which can switch on/off any electrical circuit by the sound of clap (any type of sound)

Basic concept of clap switch

• The basic idea on clap switch is that the electric microphone pickup the sound of your claps , coughs & any type of sound to switch on/off the circuit

PRINCIPLE

• Convert the sound energy into electrical energy

Components

• Transformer• Microphone• Transistors• Relay• Resistors• Capacitors• Load

TRANSFORMERS

Transformers is a static device it transfers electrical energy from alternating circuit to another alternating circuit without changing the frequency

MICROPHONE

• Microphone is transducer which converts sound signal into electrical signals

• Microphone is used for acoustic signals.

TRANSISTOR

• Transistor is a 3 layers 3 terminal amplifying device.

• it raises the amplitude of weak signals without changing in it’s frequency.

RELAY

• Relay is electrically operated switch .

• It consists of operating mechanism to make or break the connection in electric circuit.

RESISTOR CAPACITOR • Resistor is passive component • Which oppose the flow of

current

LOAD

Load is electronic or electrical circuit or component it is connect to the output of the circuit

• Capacitor is a passive component

• Which consists of two conducting plates separated by a dielectric material

Ranges of its values Resistors R1=15KO, R5,R6=1.5KO R2,R11,R12=2.2MO, R13=2.2KO

R3=270KO, R4=3.3KO R7,R8=10KO, R9,R10=27KO

Relay 12V (capacity)

WORKING

• The sound of clap is received by a small microphone that converts the sound signal into electrical signal but output is very low

• Which is further amplified by the amplifier to amplifies weak signals received by the microphone the amplifier output connect to the bistable multi vibrator .

• The bistable multi vibrator also known as flip-flop circuit.• Flip-flop circuit consist of two transistors at a time only one

transistor conduct and another cutoff .• Thus the output of transistor either logic 0 or logic 1.• The pulse of clap which is trigger for flip-flop make changes to the

out put stages• The output of multi vibrator given to the relay. The output is logic 1 the relay is normally acts as a switch . So load is activated.

MERITS• Simple circuit• Energy efficient• We can turn ON/OFF by sound• Automatic turn OFF

DEMERITS• Transformer is used in this circuit.• So cost is high

FUTURE SCOPE• To increase the range of this equipment by using

better mic (microphone) • You can use this as a Remote controller

APPLICATIONS

The clap switch is generally used for• Light • TV • Radio • AC• Similar electronic device that the person will want to

turn ON/OFF
