Twenty-Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time
From Fr. PaulFrom Fr. PaulFrom Fr. PaulFrom Fr. Paul Dear Friends,
We had an enjoyable Parish Picnic at St. Francis on Sept. 10 and a beautiful Mass (pastor installation) at St. Joseph on Sept 3. Thank you to all who helped make these events so pleasant!
Religious education classes begin this weekend and next. Please register your children now, if you have not already done so.
In the coming weeks, you will be hearing about the Increased Offertory Campaign. As I explained in my June 4 letter, we have monthly deficits in each parish because the weekly offertory has been in decline. Please consider prayerfully if you can give more each week to support our parishes. More details will be coming soon.
St. Francis and St. Joseph, pray for us!
Fr. Paul

Clergy Health & Retirement Trust
The diocese-wide collection today will support the Clergy Health and Retirement Trust which cares for the health and well-being of our priests. In the Archdiocese of Boston, we are blessed to have 590 men including Fr. Paul & Fr. John who have devoted their lives to serving Christ and His family. Your gift to this collection will help provide our priests with an appropriate level of care and quality of life so they can continue sharing the good news, performing good works, and spreading good faith.
Remember the priests who have been there in your time of need, and consider honoring them with a generous gift to this special collection. You may also make your gift online at clergytrust.org or text the word PRIEST to 56512 (msg. & data rates may apply). Thank you for your generous and prayerful support of our priests.

Twenty-Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time
SAVE THE DATE!
St. Joseph Parish Annual Parish Concert Sunday, October 22, 2017 at 2 P.M.
The music ministry invites you to join us on Sunday afternoon, October 22nd, 2017, at 2PM in the upper church, for our St. Joseph Parish Annual Concert. Both our Adult and Youth Choirs and The Messengers (our young adult music group) will perform, and there will be an opportunity for the audience to join with us in singing!
This year's program is entitled "Singing the Seasons", and is being dedicated in loving memory of Reverend Edward F. ("Fr. Ed") Doughty and Anna M. Scully, whom we lost this past year, and a portion of the proceeds from our concert program ad book will be donated to The Marine Corps Scholarship Fund and St Jude Children's Research Hospital.
There will be a luncheon in the social center following the concert, catered by Carroll's Restaurant in Medford (kindness of parishioner, Attorney Victor Garo). Please note: when you arrive for the concert, you will receive a voucher which will enable you to attend the luncheon.
We urge you to take this opportunity to come and join our choirs and instrumentalists in a prayerful and playful musical celebration! For more information, please e-mail Betsy at stjosephmusic@msn.com or call 781-396-0423 x125 (office) or 617-335-8155 (cell).
The Music Ministry Would Be Honored…
...if you would consider supporting our ministry by placing an ad in our upcoming annual parish concert program. We have the following options to choose from:
Back Cover (5 ½” x 8 ½”) $250 Half Page (5 ½” x 4 ¼”) $60 Full Page (5 ½” x 8 ½”) $100 One-Third Page (5 ½” x 2 7/8”) $45
(If you are honoring a loved one's birthday, or anniversary, etc., and would like to include a photo, the ad would need to be at least 1/2 page to be most effective. We also encourage you to "act quickly(!)", as some folks were disappointed last year, because by the time they responded, the program book was full).
You can send your ad copy and payment or individual donation (checks made out to St. Joseph Parish) directly to Betsy Pesce, Music and Liturgy Director, c/o of the rectory, at 114 High Street. We would be most grateful for your support in this very special parish event, and thank you in advance for your consideration.
Increased Offertory Campaign
In the weeks ahead, you will be reading more about a new program taking place in our parishes. The program, Increased Offertory Campaign, is an opportunity for all of us to address the most pressing needs in our parishes. Our hope is that you will prayerfully consider increasing your financial commitment to our parishes so we can increase our weekly collection by at least 20%.
Currently, our weekly collection doesn’t cover our operating expenses. Growth in the weekly collection translates to growth in the faith formation programs and outreach to our faith community.
Each week, this space in our bulletin will be devoted to reminders, updates and important announcements regarding this initiative. Stay posted!
