Where every Type A bus is a Type A plus.™
Product Brochure > > > > >
Your and our missions are all about reaching destinations. It’s about
moving students safely from one location to another, day after day.
Not long ago, we at Collins Bus made a move of our own. We set out
to make a Type A bus that would be more than acceptable – it would
be exceptional. A true A plus.
YOU GOT US FROM THERE TO HERE
After 45 years in bus manufacturing, we had more
than a few ideas of what we thought should be
included in a newly designed bus. But what we really
wanted to know was what you wanted in your bus.
Over the course of a year we hit the road to talk
to drivers, mechanics, transportation directors,
contractors, school superintendents, and parents
throughout North America.
HERE’S WHAT THEY TOLD US:
BUILDING THE NEXT GENERATION BUS
Early on we realized that building the bus our
customers wanted required more than a simple
makeover of an existing bus. It meant starting
with a clean screen and a fresh way of looking
at manufacturing.
What emerged was the NexBus – a safe, efficient,
Type A bus that offers flexibility in seating and
ease of maintenance.
To make the concept affordable, the NexBus was
designed to make full use of lean manufacturing –
including tightly managed inventories, elimination
of wasteful processes, just-in-time delivery, and
other factors that cut costs while improving value.
Take a look at the many unique features
detailed in this brochure. Then experience
firsthand the bus that you built. The exceptional,
Type A+ NexBus. From Collins. > > > > >
“SAFETY IS, AND ALWAYS WILL BE, OUR HIGHEST PRIORITY. NO ADVANCEMENT IN STYLE, PERFORMANCE, OR COST CAN BE MADE AT THE EXPENSE OF OUR CHILDREN’S SAFETY.”
“COST MATTERS. THE MOST ADVANCED VEHICLE IS USELESS IF WE CAN’T AFFORD IT.”
“GIVE US A FLEXIBLE BUS THAT ADAPTS TO OUR TRANSPORTATION NEEDS.”
“WE WANT MORE VISIBILITY. MORE STORAGE CAPACITY. GREATER RELIABILITY AND SERVICEABILITY.”

A whole new world of safety, space, and adaptability.
STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY
CREATING THE NEXBUS ALLOWED us to strengthen industry safety
factors. NexBus features exclusive one-piece tubular high-strength,
low-alloy steel roof bows, and full-length, interlocking longitudinal
cage stringers and floor beams. Structural crossmembers integrate at
OEM mount locations with state-of-the-art isolation pucks, and full-
length rubrails are attached continuously to the structure.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
NEXBUS REPLACES THE INEFFICIENT complexity of typical bus
electrical systems with easy-to-access integrated power switching and
circuit protection. The single, common wiring scheme provides better
harness routing with included grounds and accessible service points.
SEATING
NEXBUS SEATING OFFERS greater flexibility, comfort, and safety. Using
IMMI/SafeGuard XChange Seating with consistent seat-back thickness
and integrated structural seat rail, the platform is changeable and
upgradable for individual seat swaps or total reconfiguration.
PLATFORM FLEXIBILITY
NEXBUS’ FRESH DESIGN gives this bus a cleaner appearance, a
roofline that allows for taller windows and doors, and significantly
improved visibility for passengers and the driver. These and other
features allow NEXBUS to be easily adaptable to other applications,
including Multi Function School Activity Buses (MFSAB).
EXTRAS
WORLD CLASS ENGINEERING led to time-saving, budget-saving
benefits for you. Increased access to serviceable areas, a more
integrated in-wall HVAC design, and exclusive battery/storage
compartment are among the many upgrades. And NEXBUS has
proven itself tough enough for the long haul by passing the rigorous
requirements of seven-year, 200,000-mile Altoona Testing. > > > > >
Powering NexBus with Propane or CNG
As its name suggests, NexBus is perfectly positioned
to make the most of whatever the future brings.
Including alternatives to gas and diesel power.
PROPANE
WITH PROPANE ON TAP to power the NexBus, it’s an
energy source that’s in great supply in North America
and costs less than gasoline.
Propane cuts the environmental footprint of your bus
with 70 percent fewer hydrocarbons, 50 percent less
carbon monoxide, and 20 percent less NOx and CO
2.
The fuel also brings with it a safety factor gas and diesel
can’t match. Propane tanks are 20 times more puncture
resistant than their gas/diesel counterparts. In addition,
a low working pressure and narrow flammability range
increase propane’s safety profile.
CNG
THE NEXBUS IS THE FIRST Type A bus available with a
Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fuel system.
Natural gas delivers a whole range of advantages for
bus owners, as well as the planet. It’s less expensive
than gas, and not tied to unpredictable crude oil prices.
Natural gas doesn’t pool like gasoline, so it’s safer. It
reduces greenhouse gases, and is renewable and plentiful
throughout North America. > > > > >
