Colours are associated to sensations.

Synesthesia is a psychological effect that relates colour with diferent sensations, feelings or objects.

Let’s see some of them:

THE EXPRESSIVENESS OF COLOUR

COOL: snow, ice, winter,... And their hues are bluish, violet and greenish.

WARM: sun, fire, desert, summer,... And their hues are yellows, oranges and reds.

NEUTRAL: They seem cool when they are near warmand the opposite. Their hues are violets and green.

The feeling of temperature

Colours can cause different sensations of closeness or remoteness. Warm and saturated hues seem to come near while cool and unsaturated hues seem to move

away. Their contrast will emphasize this feeling.

Colours change a form’s sensation of size. Lighter hues seem to expand and appear larger while darker hues seem to shrink and appear smaller. Dark clothes, for

instance, stylised the human figure.

Colours can have very different meanings depending upon the culture. For instance, in the East, white is the colour of

funerals while in the West white is the colour of Weddings.
