Dear Members:
It’s cooling off, humidity is dropping, pumpkin spice and salted caramel are taking over the shelves at grocery stores and of course, Star-
bucks.
We had a great meeting in October. Keri Byrum, Assistant Director from Leu Gardens was our speaker; we learned what to plant for Fall
and Winter.
Several of our members attended the Fall District Meeting of FFGC held on October 18 at Wekiva Youth Camp. Our club hosted this event and I would like to thank Joan
Lasek for her organizing efforts. Also need to thank all our club members who donated baked goods, attended and who worked tirelessly in the kitchen. The meeting, as well
as, the facilities and beautiful weather turned out wonderful.
Couple of events from neighboring garden clubs:
Lakes & Hills Garden Club of Mt. Dora have invited us to their 13th Annual Garden Tour
on Saturday, November 5 from 9:30 am – 4:30 pm. Tickets are Gardens & Home Tour $15; Tour & Lunch $30. More info @www.lakesandhillsgardenclub.com,

Saturday, Nov. 12 from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm at 710 & Rollins Street (behind the Or-lando Science Center in Loch Haven Park. More info @www.OrlandoGardenClub.org.
I am really excited about our Holiday Plant Sale on Saturday and Sunday, November
19 & 20 at Crane’s Roost at Uptown Altamonte Springs at their Great Weekend of Festivals.
Plants have been ordered, volunteers have signed up so all we need is beautiful weather. Please
come out and show your support.
We have a great program this month. “Holiday Floral Designs” presented by our talented floral de-
signers. Don’t forget an auction will be held after the program so bring your checkbook so you can
take home a floral design arrangement.
Please make your reservations for our Holiday Tour & Luncheon at Historic Bok Tower Botanical Gar-
dens and Pinewood Estates on Monday, December 12, from 8:30 am – 3:30 pm. See Margaret
Kirkpatrick to reserve your spot on the bus.
My wish to all of you is to have a Blessed Thanks-giving with your family and friends.
Let’s dig in and have a blessed November.
Thanksgiving Delights
Joanna Fuchs
On Thanksgiving Day we’re thankful for
Our blessings all year through.
For family we dearly love,
For good friends, old and new.
For sun to light and warm our days,
For stars that glow at night.
For trees of green and skies of blue
and puffy clouds of white.
We’re grateful for our eyes that see
The beauty all around.
For arms to hug, and legs to walk.
And ears to hear each sound.
The list of all we’re grateful for
Would fill a great big book;
Our thankful hearts find new delights
Everywhere we look!
A Word from our President

The Sweetwater Oaks Garden Club hosted the District VII Fall Meeting at Camp Wekiva in October. There were approximately seventy attendees
from the clubs of District VII. The Florida Federation of Garden Clubs Offi-cers were in attendance.
Stephanie Allen from the Central Florida Zoo
and Botanical Gardens spoke on “Living with Black Bears in Central Florida”. Ann Todd and her kitchen crew did a great
job feeding our members and guests. Margaret Kirkpatrick and Louise Gould made the floral arrange-
ments for the tables; everyone commented on the beauti-ful designs. The arrangements were given as door prizes.
We should profit approximately $1000.00 from the District VII Fall Meeting
Our members can be proud of the great job they did hosting the meeting.

This is a drought-tolerant vine with bright blue flowers. It
likes full sun to light shade and does not like to be over-
watered. It attracts bees and butterflies with no pest or disease
problems. The best thing about this plant is a healthy drink made
from the blue flowers. After you steep the flowers in hot water, it
will turn a beautiful blue
color. Add honey to taste and a little lemon or lime juice and
it will turn purple. This drink is popular in Thailand
and is full of antioxidants. It has many health benefits, including
healthy skin and hair, improved eyesight, and anti-inflammatory
and pain relieving properties.

The October Junior Gardener’s program was presented by Lynn Griffis,
Louise Gould and Min Schwenderman on the Florida state bird and birds found in their backyard. Min helped the students make a hanger for
bird seeds. She used a pipe cleaner and Cheerios. The students strung the Cheerios on the first pipe cleaner, tied the four pipe cleaners in a
row and used a ribbon to make the hanger.
Louise used a bulletin board to display different birds found in the back-yards. She also brought her bird sound book. The students recognized the Mocking-
bird sound and really liked to hear other bird sounds. Lynn helped the students cut out pictures of birds found in their backyards from magazines and newspapers. They
glued them onto 8x11 paper. They did a good job, and these will be submitted to FFGC for an award. The Junior Gardeners are going to take part in our April Arbor
Day celebration. Min’s idea on the bird seed hanger will be a great way for the stu-dents to participate.
We meet the second Tuesday each month from 9:30 – 10:30 AM at Starchild Acad-
emy.
Volunteers for October: Lynn Griffis, Louise Gould and Min Schwenderman.
