Common Online Terminologies

• Electronic mail• Used to link two people via messages from one

computer to another• Fastest type of mailing• transmission of messages over communication

networks

E-mail

• allows users to freely create and edit Web page content using any Web browser

• Collaborative web site• a website where different authors share their

ideas

Wiki

• a centralized online service which enables users to add, annotate, edit, and share bookmarks of web documents

• Allows users to store data and get to the link as fast as they could

• displays icons that are clickable and will lead to urls

Social Bookmarking

• Hypertext Markup Language• symbols or codes

inserted in a file intended for display on a World Wide Web browser page

• special language used for creating web sites

HTML

• Netcast• digital audio or video file or recording• a digital medium consisting of an episodic series

of audio, video, PDF, or ePub files subscribed to and downloaded

Podcast

• Voice Over Internet Protocol• a technology that allows telephone calls to be

made over computer networks like the Internet• voice transmitted over a digital network

Voip

• direct text-based or video-based• Have conversation with others with the use of

technology• It is fast, convenient, and instant• Provides symbols that develop way of talking to

another person

Online Chat

• World Wide Web• Collection of internet resources• With a web browser, one can view web pages

that may contain text, images, videos, and other multimedia and navigate between them via hyperlinks

WWW

• applies to audio and video on the Internet• content sent in compressed form over the

Internet and displayed by the viewer in real time.• user needs a player, which is a special program

that uncompresses and sends video data to the display and audio data to speakers

Streaming

• a website where one expresses his feelings and writes about his thoughts

• contains a writer's own experience, observation or opinions

• Posting of different kinds of information

Blog

• Interacting with people by different ways, processes, and means

• Provides the use of e-mail and instant messaging• Can connect people all over the world free

through the Internet

Social Networking

• Uniform Resource Locator• Address of a web page• Internet address that is accessible and quick to

• Document whose discrete content items include web links to the source

• Popularly known as “RSS”: Rich Site Summary• content delivered by a web feed are typically
