Common Symptoms Of Faulty Ignition Coil

The ignition coil is responsible for starting and sending uninterrupted power supply to the vehicle.

The ignition coil converts the low voltage of the battery to high voltage and then sent it to the spark plugs where it ignites and

starts the combustion.

Type Of Ignition Coil Type Of Ignition Coil

::- Can-type ignition coils :- Distributor coils :- Ignition blocks

:- Pencil or coil on plug ignition coil :- Ignition coil pack system

What Causes Ignition Coil Failure?

There are different causes that affect the wear and tear of ignition coil.

:- If the spark plug is extremely worn out then it affects the lifespan of ignition coil.

:- Ignition coil cracks due to the combustion heat.

:- The continuous corrosion can affect the electrical terminals of ignition coil etc.

What Are the Symptoms of Ignition Coil Failure?

The ignition coil problem varies from vehicle to vehicle and the severity of the symptom depends on the condition of ignition

coil.

If the ignition coil pack is totally broken then the vehicle won't start at all.

:- Backfiring

If the engine backfires or constantly engine sputtering or jerking, then it can be a problem of

poor ignition coil in the system.

:- Backfiring happens when excess or unused fuel leaks through exhaust system.

:- If the ignition system is faulty then it causes the spark to partially ignite by leaving extra air and fuel in the system.

When spark doesn't happen properly then it causes the vehicle to sputter while starting the engine.

If you don't take the vehicle for servicing, it could damage the exhaust and can cause unnecessary repair bills for

you.

:- Vehicle starting problems

Ignition coil failure ultimately affects the spark plug as they don't receive the appropriate amount of charge to start the

combustion.

When you face any problem while starting the vehicle in cold, it leads to ignition issue.

Poor fuel economy :-

If your vehicle is showing less mileage than before then it could be a problem of faulty ignition coil.

When the ignition coil is not working properly, the fuel get seeped through the exhaust system and it causes waste

of fuel.

:- Vehicle Stalling

When there is a problem with ignition coil, it causes the spark plug to ignite irregularly and makes the vehicle to stall.

It also shuts down the engine when you halt for sometime by giving a tell-tale sign of ignition failure.

:- Noisy engine

If the ignition coil is faulty then it makes the engine to work hard, that generates rough and loud noise.

:- Less power supply

A faulty ignition coil generates less power and make it difficult to accelerate the vehicle.

Note :- If spark plugs are worn out, it forces the ignition coil to work harder and that reduces the

lifespan of ignition coil.
