Run
A running straight of 40-60 metres will provide the focal point of a Compact Athletics Facility that will allow participation in a wide range of athletics activities
Running straight
It provides a space suitable for training and the development of specific skills such as starting, baton changing and finishing for different athletics disciplines

RunTurning boards
Turning boards can be used to increase the effectiveness of short lengths of running straight. They might be used against a side wall of a building or bolt fixed in each end of the running lanes

Running/Jogging Routes
An off track trail where participants can develop skills in distance running, such as pace judgement and rhythm
Off track trails Lighting will be required if the track and access areas are to be used during the evenings
Distance markings on the surface or marker posts will enhance the design and provide information to allow participants to monitor their progression

Jump
Jumps can be taught in a sandpit at the early stages of development
Long jump and triple jump
On smaller sites, the integration of the long jump run-up with the running track can reduce the space requirements
The pit cover can be designed to fit under a bench seat and rolled out and distance markers can also be located on the bench for easy measurement
Lighting provision over sand pit areaA jumps area within a facility can
develop the skills needed from beginner (standing) long jump type activities to full long and triple jump techniques

Flexible shelter and storage building: Option A
An indoor lockable storage unit adjacent to the track allows equipment to be conveniently accessed and safely stored when not in use
A useful warm up / stretching / sheltered area provides protection from intermittent spells of bad weather, encouraging use of the facility and increasing customer appeal
Benefits
Multi-use storage building can accommodate a high jump area - if the high jump is not in use it can be closed off. The high jump facility allows the full range of skills and techniques for the event to be taught safely

Flexible shelter and storage building: Option B
An indoor lockable storage unit adjacent to the track allows equipment to be conveniently accessed and safely stored
Low-cost modular construction
The high jump facility can also be located in the open with mobile landing mats that can be stored in a storage building
Extended roof to give weather protection and a useful warm up and stretching area

Flexible shelter and storage building: Option C
An indoor lockable storage unit adjacent to the track allows equipment to be conveniently accessed and safely stored
An extended wall can provide further protection from the elements and e.g. a throws area located behing the storage building
Low-cost modular construction
A light-weight mobile cover for the high jump facility landing mats
Extended roof to give weather protection and a useful warm up and stretching area
