WATER REUSE CHALLENGES

• To preserve the natural environment• To manage water resources• To relieve the traditional resources• To propose alternative water resources

Countries that are concerned: the United States, Australia, Spain, Middle-East Countries, North Africa…

• No real consensus in the world

• Many countries with the greatest water stress have developed standards or regulations to develop Reuse.

DISKS FILTRATION RANGE

Compakblue™ Compakblue™ is the name for Degrémont’s disk filtration systems used in wastewater re-use applications.

Two versions are available: a µ-strainer filtration version, developed by Nordic Water, and a cloth filtration version, developed by Mecana.

Compakblue™ FILTER

• It complements the media filtration technologies for the reduction of Suspended Solids in tertiary filtration.

• Its uniqueness lies in the standardization of its production and its compact size.

• Water to be filtered passes through the disk filters that that hold impurities.

• The tank, available in both a steel or a concrete version, contains the disks that are arranged on a central tube.

• Disks only run during the washing phase.

OPERATING PRINCIPLE

Compakblue™

• Compakblue™ is a constant-rate variable-head gravity filter without level regulation.

•The washing is automatic, it is triggered when the water level is exceeded.

CLOTH-FILTRATION TECHNOLOGY

The washing of disks is short

and frequent. – It is carried out disk-by-disk with

a suction system for materials retained by the pile fabric.

The filtration is continuous;

no stopping during the cleaning.

Compakblue™ is a mechanical filter developed by the MecanaUmwelttechnik AG Company, in Switzerland; it is the subjectof patents (EP 0958 028).

µ-STRAINER FILTRATION TECHNOLOGY

The washing of disks is short and frequent.– Water to be filtered is fed into the

central cylinder, penetrates between the disks through openings and travels through the filtering medium on the sides of the disks.

– The dirty water is collected in a trough inside the central cylinder.

The filtration is continuous; no stopping during the cleaning.

TO SUMMARIZE, THE ADVANTAGES OF

Compakblue™

An alternative to sand filtration when the

Civ. Eng. cost is high– Saves 4 times the surface area,– Preserves natural landscapes,

Easy to install and operate– Integrating systems in tanks

A safe filtration process– Immersed or semi-immersed disks,– Helminth eggs content < 0,1/L in accordance

with the WHO (World Health Organization) recommendations.

CLOTH FILTRATION CASE STUDY: MONCHY-ST-ELOI (60), FRANCE

CONTEXT: • WWTP of 30,000 PE• Objective: Discharge in sensitive area • Start-up Date: October 2009

DESIGN:– 2 filters of 6 disks– Total filtering surface area: 60 m²– Disks diameter: 2,10 m– Concrete tank

–Treatment line: activated sludge tank, secondary clarifier, Compakblue™ Filter.

µ-STRAINER FILTRATION CASE STUDY: AUXI-LE-CHÂTEAU (62), FRANCE

CONTEXT: • WWTP of 4,000 PE• Objective: discharge into sensitive areas (marina and

then a protected estuary)• Start-up date: beginning of 2011

DESIGN:– 1 filter of 3 disks– Total filtering surface area: 8,4 m²– Flow: 60m3/h– Disks diameter: 1,90 m– Steel Tank

– Treatment line: activated sludge tank, secondary clarifier, Compakblue™ Filter
